Hi! My name is Elyse and I am an eating disorder and body image specialist in the Philadelphia area. I also work extensively with anxiety disorders, self-esteem, and trauma co-occurring with an eating disorder or as stand-alone issues. I believe that with some courage, commitment, and hope, we can do great things and I am passionate about helping my clients realize their worth and how strong and resilient they really are. I understand that what is hurting you may also be protecting you, and that letting go is no easy feat. I'm here though, to hold your hand, cheer you on, and remind you that you can do this. I'm truly passionate about the work I do and feel inspired every day by my clients' courage, strength, and resilience. If you're in, I'm in. Let’s travel along the path toward your authentic self, where the fullest and most vibrant life awaits.
Do you have unresolved issues with yourself, in your relationship, or within your family? You are not alone, and you do not need to suffer. My name is Dr. Jesse Smith, and I provide therapy to individuals, couples, and families dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, relationships and more. I will help you heal old wounds, form secure attachments, and develop effective ways of managing your thoughts, feelings, and actions. I'm excited you're here! Therapeutic relationships can be an incredibly powerful resource for accessing your truth, increasing self-love, and healing through connection. My aim as a therapist is to foster a safe, nonjudgmental space that supports clients in divesting from narratives of self-pathology, rewriting their stories in empowering ways, and in feeling more grounded and more joyful in their daily lives. My practice is rooted in a social justice frame and a belief that symptoms are most often related to the trauma of lived experiences of oppression and discrimination, not due to internal failing. I work with clients who need help managing anxiety, exploring identity, managing life transitions, managing symptoms of trauma, and undoing internalized white supremacy. I offer a politicized lens and believe in the connection between relational healing and collective liberation. I intend for therapy to be an affirming, healing and celebratory space. For those pursuing gender affirming surgeries or HRT, I'm happy to provide letters for your insurance/surgeon. I identify as White, queer, trans, nonbinary, fat, and neurodiverse (ADHD). As of August 2025, I have availability for virtual clients. Please feel free to reach out - I’d love to chat about potentially working together!

We all experience times of change, transition, and stress that can affect mood and anxiety. I offer an active, collaborative working relationship grounded in respect, transparency, and a deep desire to help clients heal and grow. Clients have remarked that I am particularly skilled in helping them navigate and grow through life transitions and take responsibility for and develop ways of coping and responding to life stresses that honor their multiple and intersecting identities and values, while also encouraging them to stretch, consider, and apply new perspectives and skills. I have over 25 years of experience as a therapist in a university counseling center and have extensive experience with undergraduate and graduate students. I am committed to helping people create and sustain a satisfying and purposeful life. With the intention of helping them move toward a greater sense of overall well-being, I enjoy working with clients around life transitions, career exploration, identity exploration, managing societally induced stress particularly related to marginalized identities, and those experiencing concerns related to career and work. I have extensive training and experience with mindfulness and integrate that into my therapeutic work. Beyond therapy, I provide Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction courses and mindfulness-based classes for groups. Please contact me to schedule a free, 15-minute phone conversation so we can talk more about what he's looking for, I can explain more about my practice, and we can see if it mutually feels like a good fit to take the next step and schedule an initial meeting.
College is full of transitions, like moving away from home and support systems, navigating relationships while balancing academic stress, and entering the professional world after graduation. These transitions can be exciting, but also daunting and overwhelming! So whether you are just starting to explore ways to improve your mental wellbeing or have been struggling for many years, you don't have to navigate it alone. My approach to therapy is always rooted in empathy, compassion, and a genuine curiosity about your unique experiences. We will work together using evidence-based practices to strengthen coping skills for the symptoms you most wish to address. Once these symptoms feel more manageable, we can then identify treatment goals that are built around understanding the impact of your past experiences, current obstacles, and hopes for the future (even if you don't know what those are yet!). I have provided individual therapy for seven years, and am especially passionate about helping those with neurodivergence (whether formally diagnosed or not) make sense of historical struggles through a non-judgmental, self-compassionate lens. Everyone can benefit from having a safe and supportive space to tackle symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, life stressors, self-esteem issues, or any other mental health difficulties. I welcome an opportunity to speak with you about your therapy goals and to see if we are a good fit, so please reach out to me via email, or phone (texts are okay too)!
I'm a therapist who is here for you, exactly how you are and where you are. Connecting with someone you can build trust with is the first step to building our therapeutic alliance. We all experience stress and challenges in life. These events, whether big or small, stay with us, often showing up in our thoughts, behaviors, feelings, and bodies. Carrying our burdens takes a toll. Recognizing these impacts in ourselves can be complex because our brains are doing the hard work of protecting us. I help adults manage daily stress, life transitions, self-doubt, career stress, relationships, and identity challenges. You're welcome to connect over a free 15-minute consultation before deciding to book. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked in non-profit, hospital, school, and community behavioral health settings. I come to this work rooted in a deep commitment to social justice. I use a personalized, integrated approach to match you and your needs best. People typically leave the first session feeling heard, validated, and proud of themselves for investing in themself. I strive to create a safe and welcoming space for healing and growth. My approach is collaborative, following your pace. It's focused on helping you to give yourself the grace to build practical tools towards change.
Many of the students I work with are used to functioning well despite feeling anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, or emotionally worn down. Some are struggling with trauma, difficult family relationships, or recurring patterns in their relationships that they don't fully understand. Others are trying to manage ADHD while balancing school, work, research, or family responsibilities. I'm also interested in working with students who are trying to make sense of themselves in the context of the world around them. That might include questions about identity, culture, community, or the emotional impact of social and political events. If you're someone who feels deeply affected by what's happening around you, therapy can be a place to think through those experiences rather than carrying them by yourself. My approach is collaborative and guided by curiosity. I don't assume there are quick answers or a single right way to do therapy. Sometimes our work is about understanding the patterns that keep repeating in your life. Other times it's about dealing with whatever is most pressing right now. Most of the time, it's both.

Has something terrible happened recently, like an assault, an accident, or a sudden loss? Is being away from home bringing up things from the past that you thought were behind you? Are you struggling to focus, keep up with assignments, or sleep through the night without nightmares? Maybe it feels hard just to leave your dorm or show up at all. Being in college can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re carrying the weight of something painful. I specialize in trauma therapy for college students who are ready for support but don’t want to spend every session rehashing what happened. We’ll use tools that help your mind and body feel calmer, even when it’s hard to talk about it. The kind of therapy I offer helps rewire the brain, which can change how your trauma affects you, how you feel about yourself, and how you experience the world around you. I’m an inclusive therapist who welcomes students of all identities and backgrounds. You’ll be met as you are, without judgment. If any of this sounds familiar, reach out for a free consultation. We’ll talk through what you’re looking for and see if it feels like a good fit.
