Welcome! My name is Eliza, and I am an LSW clinician with experience working with adolescents, teens, and adults with a variety of mental health concerns. Common areas of focus in my sessions include symptoms of OCD, PTSD, depression, grief, anxiety, and phobias. I am also passionate about working with clients experiencing relationship conflict, communication issues, and destabilizing life transitions. I am allied with the trans and nonbinary community, and am sensitive to the many ways that social injustice can impact mental health. My approach to therapy is client-centered. I draw on a range of therapeutic interventions including Solution Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and existential therapies, depending on client needs and wishes. I am committed to helping clients build awareness of personal patterns, and come into alignment with their own values in order to find greater day-to-day fulfillment. Art Therapy is for everyone! I am comfortable working with individuals from diverse cultures, beliefs and existences, and feel that being accepting, objective, respectful, and genuine are characteristics essential in a therapist; I strive to bring an inclusive and multicultural spirit to my work. Art Therapy provides an excellent catalyst for the expression of thoughts and feelings, and helps to find hidden meanings in your life; as your therapist I am here to assist with making sense of images and finding ways to manage feelings and issues. My inclination is to invite a spirit of fierce self-acceptance and self-compassion; to help change the negative, anxious, narrative to one of gentleness, forgiving, and yes, even loving.

Our practice provides psychoanalytic psychotherapy. A psychoanalytic approach to treatment offers a comprehensive and nuanced framework for addressing trauma, anxiety, depression, identity struggles, self-esteem, and a sense of self. If advisable, we can also provide careful expert medication management that is informed by our therapeutic work together. Our approach facilitates an environment where people are able to communicate their thoughts, feelings, and wishes in a setting that is inherently collaborative, caring, and non-judgemental. A strong therapeutic relationship is the most powerful means of treatment and developing this alliance is an essential priority for me.

I am a Psychotherapist and Psychoanalyst with many years of experience working with undergraduate, graduate, and medical students. I worked for many years at Carnegie Mellon Counseling Center before transitioning to full time in my private practice 15 years ago. I work with a wide range of difficulties including stress, anxiety, sadness, feeling overwhelmed, difficulties with academics or relationships, family difficulties, homesickness, procrastination, concentration or motivation difficulties, uncertainty about life direction. I help students in both practical and deeper ways. I work well with students who want to understand themselves and their symptoms, and are open to exploring how and why their difficulties have come about in addition to developing better coping mechanisms. I often see students who have seen other therapists and have not felt a good connection or felt the therapy was not helpful. I am warm, empathetic and good at engaging adolescents and young adults. I offer practical techniques to address symptoms such as mindfulness, meditation and relaxation strategies if desired. In addition, I engage students in looking deeper for more lasting change. I see people virtually and have some in person slots at my office in Squirrel Hill.

I was both the traditional and non-traditional student in my college career that struggled with balancing it all; work, social life, trying to be healthy, get good grades and discovery myself. I wish I knew then what I know now and that is, you may not need to balance but distribute, prioritize, and compartmentalize! We are not just a "talk therapy" practice, we believe in providing tools and skills to get through the life YOU want effectively. Let us help you discover your journey that aligns with your wants, desires, needs, and values.

Open Space Counseling, Consulting & Wellness is a LGBTQIA+, racial and relationship minority affirming practice. Our mission is to eliminate fear of judgement as a barrier to personal growth. You’re likely here because your life isn’t quite where you’d like it to be. You’re struggling with relationships, or finding yourself reliving old patterns that are causing you pain. You’re sick of feeling so isolated, depressed, disconnected, and frustrated when everyone else on Instagram seems so much happier and more successful. Maybe you’ve been trying to solve these problems on your own for a long time, yet still feeling stuck in the same old rut. You might be contemplating a big transition. You might really need space to talk through all the jumbled up thoughts and feelings inside. Maybe it'd be helpful to share the self-critical thoughts ("I am broken;" "I'm a failure;" "I have nothing to offer;" "I can't change;" "If I make changes, everyone will hate me"), so that we can look at them together, and notice that they aren't you. I am experienced in providing supportive counseling to folks across the lifespan, in and around the gender binary, and at all stages of “acuity.” In light of my experience, I am a staunch believer in the philosophy that all people have the resources inside themselves to make changes toward becoming ever more healthy, connected, and complex. The focus of my approach is self-acceptance. This means that I'm not going to push you to talk about things you're not ready to talk about yet, or offer much in the way of advice or homework. Instead, we'll make space for you to examine your process toward making the changes you want for your life. I am a gender affirming therapist specializing in trans and nonbinary wellness. Since 2013, I have co-authored several letters of recommendation for medical gender confirmation, and am familiar with that process. I also know that many people aren’t seeking physical changes as a part of their journey. In 2021, I obtained WPATH certification, which rewards those committed to staying on top of both the current evidence and consensus in the field through continuing education. It is the gold standard of trans-specific healthcare certification.
