I have experience working with individuals on a variety of issues. My specialties include work with anxiety, addiction, OCD, and trauma. My process with clients is very solution focused in- nature. I aim to utilize the strengths clients already possess to bring progress into all facets of their life. I also believe that utilizing the values of clients to guide therapeutic work is essential to meaningful and lasting change. While navigating change, I assist clients in learning to tolerate distress, navigate difficult emotions, while finding effectiveness and fulfillment in their day to day lives. I hope that by being authentic in my role as a therapist I can facilitate this process and create an environment for clients that is both safe, secure, and motivating. I appreciate the opportunity to join my clients in their change process and look forward to meeting you and answering any questions you may have about my services. I have extensive experience working with individuals seeking recovery, in addition to families and couples coping with the effects of addiction/alcoholism. My philosophy of addiction treatment includes both abstinence based and harm reduction, whichever the client feels fits their needs, as well as integration into recovery communities if desired.

I specialize in helping adults heal from trauma, manage anxiety, and break free from cycles of perfectionism, self-criticism, and chronic stress. I am particularly drawn to working with women, LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, and healthcare professionals navigating burnout, identity stress, compassion fatigue, and the long-term impact of always having to be “on.” As a queer, neurodivergent therapist, I understand how important it is to have a space where you don’t need to translate your experience, justify your reactions, or perform stability in order to be met with care. My approach is trauma-informed, affirming, and collaborative, drawing primarily from EMDR and ACT.

With my client-centered focus, I work hard to build a therapeutic relationship that creates a safe, comfortable, and non-judgmental space for clients to present themselves to their fullest potential. My priority is to guide and support each client in their journey to develop their sense of self-love, confidence, and peace of mind and body. Some of the issues I work with are relationship issues, academic stress, ADHD, parenting support, parent-child relationship issues, peer conflict, family conflict, anxiety, depression, cultural adjustment, life transitions, coping skills and general stress. I have extensive experience working with high-risk children, teens, and families experiencing a diverse range of emotional and behavioral problems at home and school, and symptoms resulting from disrupted attachment. I also have experience working with clients from minority cultures and marginalized groups. Growing up in another country, having knowledge and experience around a diversity of cultures allows me to be more open-minded, compassionate, and humble in supporting clients through a more holistic lens. It is never easy to take the first step, know that my goal in the therapeutic process is to create a safe and supportive environment for you.

Aloha, my name is Mahina. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and sole practitioner / owner of Honu Healing LLC, offering individual psychotherapy to adults of all ages and walks of life. Many of the people wanting my support are feeling burdened by anxiety, sadness, or grief, overwhelmed by a variety of stressors, or simply worn down by internal and external elements. Sometimes these experiences lead to self-defeating/sabotaging thoughts and behaviors, feeling disconnected from oneself or others, or struggling with cycles of shame and self-doubt. While these challenges are deeply human, they often impact our relationships, sense of security and identity, ability to be our authentic selves, and our capacity to fully function. It is my heartfelt honor to support individuals through current or lifelong challenges. I specialize in helping adults navigate traumatic experiences, grief, transitions, spirituality, and stress related to school, work, or relationships. I am here to help and guide you with effective, lasting solutions to persistent struggles. My approach is tailored to your unique needs and goals. I utilize trauma-processing methods that engage somatic awareness, your intrinsic wisdom, and inner resources. We will explore habits that are not helpful in your relationships with yourself or others. I will help you reclaim your agency with empowering tools and knowledge and guide you toward applying this in your daily life in self-affirming, embodied ways. My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, engaging, gently challenging, and often playful. With reverence for your intrinsic dignity and wisdom, I trust your compassionate capacity to heal and connect with yourself and others. I partner with you using proven methods that go beyond traditional talk therapy and employ your inherent strengths and wisdom. With my steadfast help, you will be guided through a journey of brave explorations fostering a kinder relationship with yourself. My work is to walk with people in liberatory practices that allow us to return home to ourselves, our communities, and our place in this world. I aim to embody an orientation toward collective liberation. The mental health industry is deeply influenced by white supremacy, capitalism, and colonialism. As a white, queer, gender-resistant, liberation-oriented therapist, I aim to disrupt and dismantle those oppressive systems as they exist within me and in the larger society. I incorporate decolonial, abolitionist, and transformative justice frameworks into our work as we meet one-on-one or in many relational configurations. In addressing the overwhelming effects of systemic inequities and intergenerational traumas, our work together explores how oppressions and intergenerational traumas factor into one’s lived experiences and understandings. This includes the ways that these experiences manifest in our lives as anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns we carry.

“It’s always best to believe in one’s self, but a little help from others can be a great blessing!” I view each person as the main character in their book of life. Each book contains stories of joy, sadness, exploration, struggle, and most importantly, HOPE. My goal to assist in exploring these stories, whether you encounter depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship issues, intersectional struggles, or self-esteem issues...I am especially sensitive to those impacted by LGBTQ issues, religious minorities, activists, uniformed public servants, and those experiencing depression. I utilize a multiculturally sensitive approach, borrowing from ACT, DBT, MBCT, mindfulness, narrative, and solution-focused therapies to develop a collaborative and eclectic style to treatment, tailored to your needs. Cultures all over the world have a common truth: life is suffering. Through therapy, I hope to create a safe and empowering environment to help you withstand and overcome that suffering. I welcome you to reach out to start this journey.

Welcome. People come to therapy for a range of reasons. For over 13 years I've worked with individuals 18+ years old struggling with mood, self-esteem, anxiety or worry, relationships, identity, loss, trauma, and life transitions. Working in a college counseling center is part of my prior experience. If you are interested in “depth therapy,” or have tried therapy before and the benefits didn’t stick, my approach may appeal to you. My specialty is called psychodynamic psychotherapy. This means you will be invited to begin each session with whatever comes to mind, and together we explore your inner experiences (emotions, sensations, thoughts, beliefs, expectations, dreams) with a focus on seeking to understand you and what’s troubling you. I can help us “read between the lines” for themes or patterns that contribute to feeling stuck, which may have been previously out of awareness, and which can now inform daily life and relieve symptoms. I am also certified to use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a technique that can help heal trauma symptoms impacting current life. While our work centers on you as an individual, none of us exist outside of the broader socioeconomic and cultural systems we are in. These pressures and influences around us are also real and crucial to recognize. Psychotherapy is an opportunity to deal with issues in a way that is difficult to do alone. I can accompany you with my undivided listening, consistent availability, an appointment day and time safeguarded only for you, and commitment to taking you seriously.

Humor is something I like to incorporate into therapy; however, we can be serious about your concerns too. People of all ages struggle with human suffering and sometimes you need someone to walk with you through that, whether it be something you wish to change or something that you cannot. I aim to help my clients make meaning in life while also identifying the connections between our individual concerns and larger systems in life. I provide individual therapy for a variety of concerns, including depression, anxiety, identity exploration, and trauma, with specialized experience supporting people through grief, traumatic loss, and substance use concerns. My clients have expressed appreciation for my ability to sit with them in their suffering, when they have felt most alone. I have multiple years of experience previously working in college counseling centers. During these experiences, I supported students from a variety of backgrounds and found a lot of joy in helping students at a unique intersection in their lives. I have been lucky to work with a diverse student population and have supported many queer and trans students in exploring their gender and sexual identities while also addressing other mental health concerns. In addition, I was able to support BIPOC students as they addressed systemic issues within the university, while also exploring their individual racial identities. I further co-facilitated a family-trauma group during my time at a university counseling center. Thus, I find that I greatly appreciate being able to sit with students who are addressing these concerns. I am a Psychologist Resident in OR. I have my doctorate and five years of experience providing therapy, however, to become licensed in OR I must complete a supervised residency. I am supervised by Dr. Carrie McMullin (OR 2963). I use integrative approaches to address a variety of counseling needs. My therapy style is interpersonal, relational and emotion-focused. I work towards helping my clients identify what their goals and motivations are, and collaboratively develop specific strategies and interventions that can help them achieve their goals. I have extensive experience working with relational concerns, trauma, self-esteem concerns, identity development and mood disorders. Therapy is an important investment in yourself and can be incredibly rewarding. I encourage my clients to be open, help identify their motivations to create change, and work on identifying steps to take between sessions that will help overcome barriers to emotional well-being. All aspects of you are important and I welcome people from all walks of life. I want to help you improve your relationships, achieve greater satisfaction in your life, and to channel your energy into accomplishing the goals that are important to you. I want to help you develop a stronger sense of self-compassion, greater self-confidence, and to reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression and other emotional concerns.

Trauma recovery involves the process of healing both the body and mind from overwhelming experiences by reconnecting with oneself in an integrated way. It includes developing interoception—the ability to sense and interpret internal bodily cues—which helps individuals notice and respond to their emotional and physical states with greater awareness and regulation. Recovery also involves working with both implicit memories (unconscious, body-held responses like tension or startle reflexes) and explicit memories (conscious, narrative recollections of events). Through therapeutic approaches that access these memory systems, individuals begin to make sense of their experiences, reduce reactivity, and create new, safer associations, allowing for a more grounded and empowered sense of self.
