At McGarril Mental Health Counseling, we believe that therapy works best when it's honest, well-informed, and deeply human. We founded this practice because we saw too many people struggling to find therapists who were both clinically excellent and genuinely present. Too often, mental health care feels either coldly clinical or lacks the evidence-based foundation that creates lasting change. We work with clients 18 and over, dealing with depression, anxiety, substance use, relationship issues, grief, eating disorders, and much more. We use EMDR, DBT, IFS, ACT, and CBT approaches. We're committed to offering something different: relational and trauma-informed therapy that combines rigorous training with authentic connection. We show up fully—bringing our expertise, our continued learning, and our humanity to every session.

Hi! If you’re seeking out therapy, then it’s likely you’re a little nervous. If so, take a deep breath! I’m here to create a space where you feel safe and supported as you share your personal story. In therapy we will focus on practical skills for addressing your symptoms and explore how your story of self has been shaped by both current and past relationships. I enjoy working with emerging adults, adolescents, and anyone eager to build a “life worth living.” I believe that in healing there is room for humor. And that my authenticity allows us to do great work together. When I’m not working I love going to the dog park and watching reality tv. If you’re interested, please reach out and we can schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation to see if we’re a good fit!
You may want something different from your life, but you’re not sure what it is or how to go about getting it. You could have questions about relationships, career, or identity. Or perhaps you have been finding yourself overtaken by strong emotions at unexpected times. You need a space to talk, think, feel, and explore your world - both the parts that are acknowledged and also the parts that feel mysterious or shrouded. I see psychotherapy as a process of discovery. Through this process, you will have the opportunity to learn about yourself, including the parts of you that are hard to reach or difficult to know. I believe that a person cannot be fully defined in terms of a diagnosis or a set of symptoms. We are complex beings with unique temperaments and lived experiences, and we exist in a world of complex and sometimes oppressive systems. I see you first and foremost as an individual and acknowledge the courage and vulnerability it takes to seek out therapy. I practice psychodynamic therapy through an anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ affirming lens. This work can allow you to have greater self-knowledge; to grow, and to consider and perhaps to make different decisions in your life. My approach is to bring curiosity, empathy, and insight to your current situation and to go from there.
Natasha is a clinical trainee who strives to create a space where clients feel safe, supported, and understood. She approaches her work with warmth and curiosity, believing that healing begins when people feel comfortable showing up as their full selves. Through a collaborative and trauma-informed lens, she works alongside clients to explore their experiences and build a deeper sense of self-understanding. She has experience working with adolescents and young adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. Her approach is primarily person-centered, with evidence-based practice influences of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness Based approaches. Natasha also incorporates somatic techniques to support clients in deepening self-awareness and strengthening the mind-body connection. She tailors her approach to each individual, helping clients understand their thoughts and emotions while nurturing growth and resilience. All are welcome in her space. Natasha is currently pursuing her Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling and Wellness from New York University. Her training is rooted in cultural sensitivity and trauma-informed care. With a naturally empathetic and nonjudgmental presence, Natasha strives to create an environment where clients feel safe exploring their inner world and navigating life’s uncertainties with greater clarity and confidence.
The clients with whom I work tend to seek a better understanding of their coping mechanisms, relationship patterns, and self-limiting beliefs. I often work with college and graduate students that struggle with negative beliefs related to their capabilities and worthiness. I help clients to explore how past experiences have contributed to developing coping mechanisms, such as persistent worry, perfectionistic tendencies, and hypervigilance in social situations, that may have been helpful in the past but are no longer serving them in the present.
I offer culturally-responsive individual therapy for adults struggling with a range of concerns, including anxiety, stress, panic attacks, depression, disordered eating, substance misuse, self-esteem issues, relationship concerns, and life transitions. I am well-versed in working with individuals who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community, and provide an affirming space for all gender identities and sexual orientations. I offer in-person sessions at my office in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, as well as the option to meet virtually via HIPAA-compliant Telehealth services.

I believe that every individual can benefit from psychotherapy. In life, one will encounter hardship; psychotherapy offers a safe space for individuals to receive support without judgment or thinking they are beholden to someone. In my therapeutic work, I strive to help individuals face a variety of challenges, such as depression, grief, anxiety, life transitions, academic difficulties, gender and sexual identity concerns. I specialize in working with cancer patients and their families, LGBTQ+ and disabled folx, which is informed by my positionality as an Asian-American cisgender lesbian that is a caregiver to someone with metastatic cancer. Often, we can get stuck in our daily grind of rise, rinse, repeat, daydreaming about what could be different, and yet feel paralyzed by uncertainty. “Feel the fear and do it anyway” might fall flat because how does one get to the point where they can identify what they are feeling is fear and trust in themselves and others to hold space for them along that journey? In my therapeutic practice, I offer a compassionate, culturally sensitive, and judgment-free space informed by humor, creativity, and collaboration. My goal is to support those who may be experiencing concerns including, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and burnout. With a special focus on trauma-informed care and disordered eating, I provide a secure and comfortable environment where clients can explore and heal from past and present challenges. By blending person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and psychodynamic techniques, we will craft a personalized strategy to address what is holding you back from reaching your authentic self.
I'm Joe. I'm a kind, compassionate therapist who works well with folks who are curious about who they are and what kind of life they want to build. With this spirit of curiosity we can explore what has gotten in your way and where you want to go: how your past coping methods served you then, but not now; how we can improve your ability to communicate with yourself and others; how to feel more centered and clear on your desires and goals. I have special experience and ability to support folks in the queer, trans and broader LGBTQ+ communities. I also support relationship systems (including both monogamous couples and open/poly systems) with navigating their challenges in work, love, and play. Throughout all my work, I practice from an anti-oppression and anti-racism mindset. If anything above sparked your interest, and you think I might be able to help, let's find a time to connect.
I believe that we all possess the power to make lasting changes in our lives. We just need the right support. I take a holistic attitude to understanding the challenges my clients face, including paying attention to the importance of culture and environment. I believe that change occurs when we acknowledge intersectionality, the complexity of identity, and the important roles that social systems like family, religion, culture, class, gender, and race play in people’s lives, not when we ignore the broader picture and focus only on the individual. My goal is to walk with you on your journey and provide compassionate and collaborative guidance that fits exactly who you are while helping you move towards how you want to be in the world. I work with people dealing with a whole variety of mental health and mental wellness concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, spirituality, career and personal development, grief and loss, and life transitions. I have a special love for providing counseling to international students, immigrants, and refugees. Want to get started? Email me.
