Hi! My name is Matt and I am a limited licensed professional counselor. I have been working as a counselor since 2022 and have been working in the mental health field since 2016. My first counseling job was at Central Michigan University and I worked with clients with a variety of concerns such as life adjustments, anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, trauma, etc. Before anything else, I'd first try to get to know you, your circumstances, your presenting problem, and your strengths before we focus on how we can make the best use of our time together, whether that be space to process, thinking of solutions, or something else. If we don't happen to be a match, that's ok! I work with a team of other mental health professionals who may be available to take on new clients as well.

It provides us with professional guidance and support tailored to each individual's unique needs, fostering growth, healing, and a greater sense of self-awareness. Being surrounded by other college students doesn't always protect you from feeling lonely or overwhelmed. College and graduate school can feel very isolating and challenging. Starting therapy can be the first step toward realizing that you don't have to carry these challenges alone. I am currently accepting new clients at Mindful Counseling, Standale location and via Telehealth. I work with adults seeking support for anxiety, depression, relationship and family challenges, emotional regulation, separation and attachment anxiety, life transitions, and identity development. I especially enjoy working with college students and young adults as they navigate increased independence, adjusting to college, academic and career pressures, and discovering who they are. Whether you're seeking support during a difficult season of life, greater clarity, or personal growth, I'm committed to partnering with you throughout the therapeutic process. My approach is integrative and individualized, drawing from CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care, mindfulness-based and somatic interventions, and person-centered therapy. I tailor treatment to each client's unique needs and developmental stage, with an emphasis on emotional regulation, self-awareness, resilience, and building on existing strengths. I strive to create a compassionate, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel comfortable being themselves. I believe therapy is a shared human experience where we work together toward understanding, healing, and growth. Meaningful change happens through connection, collaboration, and a strong therapeutic relationship. If you're interested in learning more or scheduling a consultation, I'd love to connect. The Standale office is especially convenient for students, just five minutes from GVSU's Allendale campus, within walking distance of the Laker Line stop, and about 15 minutes from GVSU's downtown campus and Aquinas College. I look forward to connecting with you!
College can be one of the most exciting and challenging times in your life. Between adjusting to new responsibilities, balancing academics, friendships, and possibly work, it’s normal to feel stressed, overwhelmed, or uncertain about the future. Hi there! My name is Jessica, and my pronouns are she/her/hers. I believe the real job of therapy is to provide a safe place where you get to know yourself better and make changes in your life. My goal is to help you express emotions that are interfering with your life, and guide you through them at your own pace. It is a collaborative process where we work together to explore what you are going through and identify what you are looking to accomplish. It is important to me throughout this process you are feeling heard, understood, and respected. My idea of successful therapy includes you walking out with new ideas and new ways of doing things that fit your personal values and bring you happiness. It is my passion and privilege to join in this journey with you. I provide therapy services for adults, adolescents, and children. I have participated in several trainings over the years centered on play and art therapy techniques.
Counseling is a personal and unique process for each person. I facilitate each client’s unique process, and walk alongside the client, shoring up their strengths and making use of our relationship to bring about positive change. The therapeutic process can be challenging at times, and I work with the client to fully experience the joys and sorrows that are part of life, striving to feel a wide range of emotions. I enjoy working with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds. Starting up the counseling process can feel unknown and scary, and I’ll honor the vulnerability you show in reaching out.
Keeping it all together in college can be exhausting. When things like anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, panic, and stress get in the way, it can be incredibly overwhelming. Whether you struggled with these things before coming to college, or the transition to college has brought on new stress or anxiety - you're not alone and you deserve therapy that works. I specialize in compassionate, evidence-based therapy for individuals with anxiety, OCD, intrusive thoughts, panic attacks, phobias, and related challenges. I'm passionate about helping college students to cope effectively with these challenges so that you can make the most of your college experience and feel like yourself again on campus. My style is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth, while staying anchored in truly effective, research-back principles. Finding the right therapist can be a deeply personal process. Taking that next step to put yourself first is so worthwhile. If you'd like to learn more, feel free to reach out and let's chat. I look forward to learning your story, understanding your goals, and getting started.
You may feel like you should have everything figured out by now. The truth is, most people don’t. College can bring a lot of pressure, academically, socially, and personally. You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, lonely, or navigating relationship challenges, or questioning your direction about what comes next. Many students I work with come to therapy because something in their life doesn’t feel quite right. Sometimes that means exploring the stress happening right now, and other times it means getting curious about past experiences or childhood dynamics that may still be shaping patterns in relationships, self-confidence, or how you handle difficult emotions. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in helping you better understand yourself while also building practical tools to manage stress and feel steadier. Therapy with me doesn’t have to feel stiff or overly clinical; humor, swearing, and showing up as your real self are all welcome here. My office is located by a GVSU Laker Line bus stop and is about a 10-minute walk. You don’t have to sort everything out on your own. Reach out if you're ready to start getting the support you need!

Hi! I am an EMDR-Certified and AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist with a specialization in working with college students (both "traditional" and "non-traditional"). I deeply enjoy getting to work with folks who are looking to address challenges they might be experiencing in their relationships: their relationships to partners, friends, family members, and importantly, to themselves. Many life experiences may lead us to feel in disconnection with ourselves: whether you have experienced relational or institutional trauma, are navigating multiple life transitions (e.g. beginning a new degree, receiving a new medical diagnosis), or are exploring social, sexual or gender identity, I am here to help you reconnect with yourself and take steps forward in your healing journey.
If you're reading this, you're ready to get the help you need to make changes in your life, and I'd love to be a part of that. Whether you're ready to start healing from trauma or want help with all the confusion as your adulthood is beginning or are just struggling to make it out of bed in the morning, I've been there. I want to learn and understand your pain and from there make a plan with you to get you the life you want. I have experience helping clients with challenges of identity and direction as well as clinical disorders like depression, anxiety, OCD, or BPD. I fit my approach to my clients and make use of treatments proven to work for whatever the challenge is you're facing. Not all my clients will get DBT skills training or exposure therapy, but all my clients will get a safe, non-judgmental environment where nothing is too scary or too taboo to talk about. I'm here to help you figure out a life where you get to be who you want to be.
Your grades are declining. You nap because it's the only way to shut your brain off. You're reviewing everything you said in that last conversation because you're sure you said something embarrassing. You feel like something is wrong, but you don't want anyone to know. You've come to the right place! We will explore your challenges from a non-judgmental and self-compassionate place. Believe me- I've heard and seen it all, and I can still honestly say my clients are the most amazing people. You are not lazy or weird or any of the other negative things your brain is telling you. My clients often struggle with challenges related to anxiety, depression, social anxiety, autism, and perfectionism. I will help you learn to manage your anxious or depressive thoughts differently so that you can function and succeed. You've struggled long enough. Let's work together to get you unstuck.
You might be a good fit for working with me I if you’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, or carrying around stuff from your past that still shows up in your day-to-day life. Maybe you’ve been through hard or confusing experiences and aren’t sure how to talk about them yet. Therapy with me isn’t “one-size-fits-all” — we go at your pace and figure out what actually works for you. I focus on helping students feel safer in their bodies, understand their emotions, and build real coping skills they can use outside of sessions. I also love incorporating animals into therapy when appropriate, because they can help make the process feel more comfortable, grounding, and a little less intimidating. If you’re looking for a supportive, down-to-earth space where you can be yourself, you’re in the right place.
