Hi! My name is Shira Collings (she/they). I specialize in working with clients with eating disorders, disordered eating, body image distress, and those wanting to break free from diet culture. As a diet culture dropout myself, I am passionate about supporting others in finding freedom with food and body acceptance. I am also passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent folks, as well as those with substance use and trauma histories. My therapeutic approach is rooted in the Health At Every Size paradigm and body liberation. It is also informed by feminism, disability justice, and queer and trans liberation. I believe that healing comes from feeling heard, seen, and valued, and I strive to create a space in which clients can express their full, authentic selves. I have training in Motivational Interviewing, Dialectal Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. I also have a background working in disability and mental health advocacy and regularly incorporate advocacy into the counseling process. Additionally, I have training in trauma therapies including Narrative Exposure Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy. I’d be honored to be a part of your journey! Please feel free to visit our website to see if I might be a good fit.

Welcome! Whether you are beginning your therapeutic journey for the first time or returning to continue your progress, I am so glad you’re here. Starting therapy is a significant step towards self-discovery and healing, and I commend you for taking it! I have a profound commitment to assisting individuals, especially young adults, who are dealing with trauma and anxiety. These experiences can be challenging and often overwhelming, affecting various aspects of life. My specialization in trauma therapy provides you with a safe, supportive space to explore and heal from past experiences. Similarly, my experience in anxiety management can support you in understanding and overcoming the symptoms that may be impacting your daily life. I have worked in Community Mental Health for over three years where meeting with clients in some of their darkest times has influenced me to take specified approaches to therapy. I create a relaxed atmosphere with an informal, friendly communication style, allowing you to express yourself freely. I work alongside you, guiding and supporting your journey with an approach tailored to your needs, and your feedback is invaluable for productive sessions.

The stress, over thinking, and lack of motivation have taken over even the simplest of tasks anymore. Life gets too busy and you are constantly rushing around. It seems like other people have figured it out and you are alone. You are constantly worrying with thoughts just spinning in your head about work, family, and friends. This isn’t how being an adult was supposed to be. Your life really isn’t "that bad" so why is it so hard for you to get things done or be happy? You dream of a simpler life. An easier life where you are able to complete the things that need to be done without feeling overwhelmed. You remember a time when you had a busy schedule with work, friends, family, school and were able to keep up with everything, so why can’t you do more now? You want to feel happy again and enjoy the simple things. You are an expert on your life but I bring my passion and experience to guide the process and help you create the life you want. It is possible and together we will find the way, you aren't alone or misunderstood anymore. I use HIPAA compliant systems. Visit my website for more information and schedule a consultation to begin.

THE THERAPEUTIC PROCESS IS A CONSTANTLY CHANGING JOURNEY THAT REQUIRES DIFFERENT PIECES AT EACH STAGE. Therapy is a process. When looking for a therapist, you want someone who can see your goals and provide insight into how they can become reality. Therapy isn’t something that you can just come into one session and be magically healed. When I say therapy is a process, I mean, that therapy comes with challenges, but also rewards. If you can be completely open and honest in this process, I can promise that I will not only work to be a guiding light in this fog you are walking through, but also someone who is going to challenge you and help you bring your inner dialogue out. When I am working with a client, I will bring strategies that you can implement, challenging questions, and overwhelming support. There are going to be days where you may feel like giving up on your ideas, dreams, or passions but I want to remind you that resilience isn’t just about being able to take pain, but resilience is fighting for a future you want. I work with a multitude of specialities including beauty standards, colorism, stress from the political climate, trauma responses, parenting and how your childhood impacts this, social anxiety. Some of the specialties that I focus on are Beauty standard/colorism. We live in a society where European standards seem to be the beauty standard but beauty comes in different shades as well as different shapes. It’s not society‘s job to tell you what makes you beautiful, it’s your own job to remind you that you are beautiful the way you are And how you interpret that in your day-to-day life. Identity also plays a part in my specialties. Being a biracial woman myself, I hold space for Multiple aspects of identity. Every person you know has intersectional pieces of their identity and what I work on is understanding those pieces and how they work to frame your decisions, choices and life. Working through trauma experiences can be difficult. Things that you may not even think to be triggers such as certain sounds you hear, a song that plays at a restaurant, or even the smell of a cologne can completely change your mood. I specialize in working through trauma experiences due to incest. Especially if these experiences are continuing to impact you through the role of a parent. As a parent, you’re already going through mental gymnastics, whether or not you should let your kid out to be at a sleepover party or finding that they have a group of friends that were similar to yours as a kid. Rather than internalizing these fears, I want to create an open discussion where we can process your feelings and thoughts, give you validity to your emotions, but also give you the better understanding that all these emotions still impact your child. Lastly, in the climate that we’re in, politics should not be an issue we avoid. Whether you are on the right or left side, there are things that are happening in current news today that may be impacting you emotionally, financially, and maybe even physically. As your therapist, I’m here to not only just listen to you but also give you the chance to have your voice heard even if you have family with opposing views, friends with opposing views or even neighbors. The therapeutic process does not need to be one that is shortened by fear. Coming into a therapy session, I want you to feel like you have room to talk and that someone is actually listening. This isn’t just an hour of your time that you hope your therapist is making it a safe space but it’s an hour of your time that you were working towards a goal, something that you want in life. I don’t want to just create a safe space for you, I want to help you create a space where your inner thoughts can be heard, validated and respected.

Maybe it seems like you’ve tried everything, but nothing seems to work. Whether you’re experiencing anxiety, lack of motivation, a recent or upcoming life transition, feeling overwhelmed, trouble putting your thoughts together, or any of the other many barriers we can experience that interfere in a healthy life, please reach out. The stories we believe about ourselves are essential, and yet, they are stories we are often unaware of. You may have decided to seek treatment because you (or someone in your life) noticed something about you or how you live in the world that has been difficult, like feeling disappointed in yourself or others, and this may have impacted things like your schoolwork or your relationships. Whatever the difficulties are, these are themes in your story -- we would work together to make sense of them, and see what we can do about them. The possibilities may include things like psychotherapy (talk therapy) or medications, both of which are treatment options I offer in my psychiatry practice. Because I think it is essential to treat you as a whole person, I am only accepting new patients who are interested in psychotherapy (typically at least weekly), either with me in my practice, or with a therapist with whom I have a working relationship. As a physician (medical doctor) specialized in psychiatry, I draw on years of dedicated training for your treatment; qualifying as a psychiatrist entails, after completion of a bachelor's degree, eight years of full-time medical education, including six years of supervised, direct patient care in a variety of treatment settings. To learn more about my practice or to request a phone call to discuss a consultation visit, please visit my practice website, www.terrafirmapsychiatry.com.

How are you doing with the dystopia? I'm Cori, and with me, therapy starts by acknowledging that we are living in the dark ages. But my clients are heroic. They're intrepid. They're wise. They are struggling to make meaning and survive in a harsh and terrifying era. Most of us feel pretty powerless. I try to offer a brand of queer Buddhist wizardry that helps people break generational curses, find the power they DO have, and create community that sustains them. I offer many evidence based approaches to therapy, especially those that help us change our relationship with ourselves, and changing our relationship with life and reality. Existential therapy, acceptance & commitment therapy, and narrative approaches are my bread-and-butter. I also work from a great deal of other experiences; as an activist, queer organizer, drag artist, social work professor, and a student of many wisdom traditions. I lived abroad in both Europe and Asia and know how alienating, frightening, and difficult it can be to adjust to a radically different culture. I studied tàijíquán and Daoist thought on Wǔdāng mountain in central China from 2010 to 2011, and have studied and practiced Buddhism since 2011 with various Tibetan, Bhutanese, and western Lamas.

Turning 18, graduating high school, and feeling the pressures of what you "should" be doing next feels overwhelming, confusing, and sometimes frustrating. "How do they expect me to know what I want to do for the next 60 years when I wasn't even allowed go to the bathroom a few months ago!" (Breathe a sigh of relief, because you do NOT have to have a 60-year life plan, we promise!) In a world with so many options, it can be easy to feel like maybe you don't know what to choose, or that the decision you've made might not be right. On your journey, it's natural and common - and totally okay! - to feel any and all of those feelings! Whether you are starting college, forgoing college, or doing something entirely unique, navigating the traditional "college age" part of your life can be a struggle. What you want is support. What you deserve is support. A time and space to explore your goals, your feelings, and your daily experiences without judgement, helping you find your footing and starting your post-college life with some more confidence and resilience than you've ever had before! And you know what, that's exactly what we're here for - to guide, support, and empower you through this awesome (but sometimes scary) journey in your life!
