Therapists for college students near Pittsburgh, PA
We all have struggles. Despite our best efforts and intentions, those struggles can leave us feeling overwhelmed and we don't even understand how we got here. I want to help you explore and address your concerns, by encouraging a sense of curiosity and humor, when appropriate. Rather than approach our troubles with trepidation, why not approach them with interest ā be curious about ourselves, how we came to be who/how we are, how the things we have tried have worked/not worked or even made things worse and what other options may exist that we have not yet thought of or tried? Learning to be curious about ourselves and the challenges we face, and to find humor and grace along the way, allows us to be less judgmental and feel less ashamed of ourselves and our struggles, so we can build a life we want on more solid ground. Iām a psychologist with 20 years of experience working with college-aged (traditional and non) individuals. I have a very collaborative approach ā you are the expert on you. I incorporate a number of therapy approaches, using what I believe will best fit you and the difficulties discussed. I know how difficult it is to seek help and it's my job to make this easier by offering a warm, empathetic and safe place to explore and address your concerns. If you are ready to feel better about yourself and explore how you might meaningfully address the challenges in your life, I am excited to join you in this process!
I am a Licensed Social Worker (LSW), and a queer and non-binary person who uses they/them pronouns. I am also half-Taiwanese and half-White, neurodiverse and chronically ill. I love working with clients who donāt fit neatly into societyās pre-determined āboxes,ā and are seeking to experience more enjoyment, fulfillment, and authenticity in their own lives ā especially in terms of expressing themselves fully. This may involve experiences of gender, sexuality or perhaps a life transition such as career change, Iām open to all of it. Ultimately, I am curious about learning about people for who they are, and how they move through the world with whatever intersections of identity they may possess. My approach is grounded in anti-oppression and social justice principles and centered around the foundation of a genuine and compassionate therapeutic relationship with each and every client. I am here for the open acknowledgment of all that you have experienced, and all that you are, by providing plenty of space for both curiosity and reflection. In our work together, I will prioritize your autonomy, trusting you as the expert for you. Through a collaborative, non-judgmental, āas structured as you want itā approach, I am here to show up for you - to support you through your walk through life ā however that may look like for you. I am trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and take a Strength-Based and Culturally Sensitive approach. I utilize Psychodynamic therapy and techniques and skills taken from other modalities as needed, as they apply to the work you would like to do in therapy.
To live is to suffer; to survive is to find meaning in the suffering (Neitzsche). We would never be able to experience our joy had we not of grown through our pain. GROWTH is the key component of findings ones true self. Be it feelings of anxiety, depression, or symptoms of PTSD, you CAN and WILL grow to be a better version of you when you take this journey of wellness. Exploration of ones self and mental toughness are key components to living a healthy and fulfilling life. Sometimes our past experiences, generational patterns, or our current thought patterns prohibit us from achieving greatness. I have over 15 years of experience I specialize with teens, young adults, and pro athletes. I am LGTBQI affirming. Therapy should be about being authentic not only as a client but as your clinician. At the end of the day my job is to work myself out of a job where you feel empowered, self aware, and motivated to hit the ground running to achieve your life's purpose.

I work w/ adults 20 y.o. and up. I approach symptoms not as nuisances to be managed or reduced, but rather as signposts to be read. They point us to the deeper, meaningful issues that compel thoughtful reflection both in and outside the consulting room. We can look forward to exploring the patterns/themes that announce themselves in our work together, approaching all that we see w/ the respectful curiosity that sets the conditions for growth. I have experience working with adults struggling with mood disorders, anxiety, traumatic experiences, relationship difficulties, and the universal issue of learning to live in the face of loss. Since 1987 Iāve done psychotherapy in a variety of settings. Early on I worked in community mental health and then a rape crisis center. Later, I was a member of a large group private practice for over 25 years. My clinical orientation is psychodynamic with a strong relational orientation. My continuing education in psychodynamic approaches is ongoing. If you're interested in meeting, we'll first have a brief conversation on the phone so that I'll have a chance to tell you more about how my practice works and you'll have the opportunity to tell me more about your expectations or ask any questions you might have.

College and graduate school can stretch you academically, mentally, and emotionally. When stress, burnout, or self-doubt start to pile up, that stretch can feel more like a breaking point. I work with students to navigate anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, trauma, life transitions, and challenges that can come with disability. I also support people adjusting to new environments, including the shift from rural backgrounds into more urban, academic settings. Together, weāll look at where youāre feeling stuck or overwhelmed and build practical skills to help you clear those hurdles and reconnect with what matters to you. My approach draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). In practice, this means weāll use a blend of tools to help you understand your thoughts and reactions, make sense of your experiences, and respond in ways that feel more manageable and effective. I will tailor our work to your personal goals, because your idea of accomplishment is what matters to me. If youāre interested, we can also bring in elements of Geek TherapyĀ® (using movies, games, or other examples of popular culture) to make therapy feel more relatable and engaging. If youāve been dealing with mental fatigue, cognitive overload, or a life-altering diagnosis, you donāt have to figure it out on your own. We can work together to help you feel more balanced, confident, and prepared for your next chapter, whether thatās graduation or the following academic term. Reaching out can be the most difficult step in this process. Letās start a conversation and design a treatment plan just for you.
If you feel overwhelmed, confused, anxious or alone, it might help to have someone on your side to help you sort through the mess without judging you. I enjoy helping fellow humans adjusting to changes big and small, experiencing anxiety, perfectionism and self-esteem issues, questioning sexual/gender identity, or struggling with disordered eating and/or body image. We will work together in a way that aligns with what you need at the time, whether that's coping strategies to manage daily stressors or a nonjudgmental space to process what's happened to you and figure out where you want to go from here. I will acknowledge how your identities (including LGBTQIA+, neurocomplexity, and disability) intersect with each other and the environment, and can help you know yourself better and become more self-empowered and self-compassionate.

My name is Sam, and here at Dandelion Counseling I hope to support you through all stages of life from bud to fluff with humility and kindness. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and Licensed Behavioral Specialist (LBS) and have been in the mental health field for 14 years. I believe all humans deserve respect, and the ability to be supported in their journey of life. I hope to provide a place for individuals I work with to feel safe, affirmed, and to move through each length of their journey in their own way. When I seek clients I look for individuals who are ready to take that first step into whatever is next, or might be curious as to what that step might look like. I'm here to meet you where you are, and be there with you. I believe that all individuals in their mental health should be able to hold autonomy, and choose which path is right for them. I encourage an individualized approach to each person, and that we work as a team. It is important to me that each person has the ability to chart their own course, and feel that they have a an open, as well as a supportive place. I hope that you will join me and continue to explore what this life has to offer. There is nothing quite so precious as the steps we take to get to know ourselves in each length of the journey we are on. I can't promise answers to life's mysteries, but I can assure those I work with that I will do my best to remain humble, and to be open to possibilities.
