My name is Kaylee Van Gent, I am a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) providing psychotherapy services virtually in Pennsylvania. I have over 4 years of clinical experience across outpatient, residential, and school-based settings. In my clinical work, I often partner with clients experiencing anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, trauma, and identity and adjustment issues. While I see many different clients, I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ clients, those who are navigating complex trauma, and those who have experienced religious/spiritual abuse or manipulation. I work with older adolescents, adults, and older adults. Therapy with me is grounded in deep empathy, creativity, curiosity, and a belief that meaningful change happens through safe, collaborative relationships. My goal is to help clients build insight, develop effective coping strategies, and move toward meaningful, values-aligned change. Alongside my clinical work, I am also a doctoral student in the Counselor Education and Supervision program at Pennsylvania State University where I am pursuing research interests of social justice and systemic change in counseling and religious/spiritual abuse. Through teaching, research, and practice, I value providing therapy that is affirming, trauma-informed, and responsive to each client’s unique culture, context, and experiences. Outside of work, I am a curious, playful, and nature-loving person. I love hiking with my partner, reading, and having a good laugh.
If you are wondering why you may be attracting the same type of partner or repeating the same types of losses in your relationships or friendships, then I am here to help you through it. Working through your attachment and unlearning some behaviors picked up in childhood can be done. Goals are meant to work in small attainable steps. While I am intuitive, I like to keep it real with you. What that means is that I will work with you in a direction that is suited to your needs. I am a holistic psychotherapist with over 20 years experience. The Counseling Corner is a group of dedicated clinicians who take pride in providing quality mental health care. As a mental health practice, we assist members by providing therapy to a wide array of people who are in pursuit of happiness. Our team is comprised of exceptional clinicians with a variety of specialties to ensure we give you the best support possible. From our founder: I wanted to take a moment to share something deeply personal and meaningful to me. At 23, I faced an unimaginable loss when I lost my mother to alcohol addiction. It was a painful journey that led me to struggle with my own mental health for nearly a decade. During that time, I often searched for a purpose and a way to turn my pain into something positive. Today, I’m proud to announce that I’ve opened this mental health practice. We are building a team of incredible clinicians, each of whom shares a commitment to help others navigate difficult times and find hope and healing. Our goal is to create a safe space where people can feel understood, supported, and empowered on their journey to wellness. We’re here to save lives and help individuals reclaim their strength. Hello, I'm Dr. Liz. I'm a Spartan alumna, and former long-time East Lansing resident who also used to work at MSU CAPS as an intern! I now live in Pennsylvania where I have a solo practice. I am a member of PsyPact, which means I can offer remote (video) sessions to those in any PsyPact member state (includes Michigan). In light of recent tragic events, I am offering a free crisis session by video (as scheduling permits) to any Michigan State student, faculty, staff, or parent who is within any PsyPact member state. Please email me with any questions or to schedule a free crisis session.
Hello! I've explored many roles in the last 10+ years working in school, community, inpatient, and outpatient settings. I have found that I enjoy working with people of all ages, but I have a soft spot in my heart for working with the young or young at heart, who are willing to explore the therapy process in creative ways. I love when I can use my training as a dance/movement therapist, and I am also practical and enjoy helping clients accomplish their goals more directly through skills teaching. I have training and experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I am a licensed Professional Counselor, and Registered Dance/Movement Therapist with over 10 years working in the mental health field as a recovery specialist, therapist, and practicum supervisor. I bring an eclectic approach to treatment incorporating creative arts, play, movement exploration, skills teaching, and talk-based interventions to my practice. I know it can be challenging to take that first step of asking for help. Whether your are looking for more traditional talk-based therapies or are interested in creative means of self-exploration and communication, I'm excited to offer my support. If old patterns have not been serving you, lets start the journey of discovering new ways to "move though life."
College can be exciting, overwhelming, and sometimes unexpectedly hard. Whether you’re navigating trauma, mood changes, stress, or the ups and downs of bipolar disorder, therapy can offer a space to better understand yourself and build stability. I specialize in working with college students, helping them manage challenges, strengthen coping skills, and move toward a more balanced, fulfilling life.
Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, interpersonal difficulties, or the impacts of trauma? Do you wish you could show up differently in your life and with those you love? As we try our best to adapt to the world around us, we can sometimes develop patterns that are unhelpful or that no longer serve us in our current circumstances, which can lead us to feel stuck. I will work alongside you to build insight, foster self-compassion, and help you to identify your own internal resources for healing.
My practice supports students coping with the many challenges of adjustment to college life. I aim to help students achieve their academic/professional and social goals, while remaining true to their identities and interests. Through therapy, I help my clients understand that achievement does not mean sacrificing who you are. Together we focus on clarifying personal goals, identity development, and adjustment to new freedoms and environments. I have special interest in working with first generation, racially/ethnically diverse, LGBTQ+, and immigrant students.
I founded my practice to create a space for people to feel heard, seen, and to create positive change in their lives. I want mental health care to feel welcoming, accessible, and like a safe holding space to sort it all out. I truly believe we are all out here doing our best, and that every person deserves an opportunity to heal and grow from adversity. We are all flawed works in progress, and that’s perfectly okay. I have had the opportunity to live this; and know what it’s like to be in the other seat. I’m so grateful for the healers in my life (shout out to Rary and Rena!), and find great purpose and privilege in being able to do that for others. I guide clients by fostering space for exploration and curiosity while also integrating actionable practical tools. I specialize in helping people process their trauma, get relief from anxiety and depression, understand and set boundaries, and improve relationship functioning. My practice is LGBTQIA+ affirming, strengths-based, and empathic. I am trained in evidenced based interventions that offer highly effective relief. Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) offers Trauma/PTSD treatment in 7-12 sessions. The Gottman Method is an extensively researched backed methodology for treating couples. My goal is to deepen the understanding between couples and provide blueprints for success to handle conflicts. Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT) is a treatment modality for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Please don't hesitate to reach out for a free 15 minute consultation.
Welcome to Empirical Embrace Counseling! I became a therapist because I understand what it feels like to be in the throes of mental illness while also navigating the ups and downs of life - and how isolating that can be. I want all of my clients to feel safe when they are in the therapy room with me. I want them to know that they have me in their corner to support, guide, and advocate for them. My clients inspire me every. single. day. and I am truly passionate about my work. I am extensively trained in a variety of evidence-based treatments for OCD, eating disorders, anxiety disorders, and trauma. Some of these treatment modalities include Exposure/Response Prevention, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - Enhanced for ED's, Prolonged Exposure for PTSD, and general Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for anxiety and depression. The most important thing to me in the therapy room is my relationship with my client. I approach this with compassion and empathy and most importantly, meeting my clients where they are. Holding the space for my clients to experience life's ups and downs is one of my greatest strengths.
