You may be coming to sex therapy now because you are needing a bit more expertise around how to talk about and process the sexual relationship with yourself or partner. You may be tired of not feeling good in your body or in your relationship and can remember a time when it felt better. You are ready to find out why you feel so disconnected from yourself and from the person or people you care about most. You’ve been having the same conversations over and over again, arriving at the same destination, and feeling as though you can’t get out of the spiral. You want to feel safe. You want to feel heard. You want to be seen. You are ready to make the commitment to know yourself in a deeper way. We will start by figuring out when you noticed there was a problem. Did something happen? How are you making sense of the problem? What have you tried to fix the problem? At times, getting good information and experimenting is all you need to start feeling good. Sometimes we need to keep digging.

I work with folks who want to connect with their emotional worlds and nurture relationships both with themselves and others. As a cis-gender male, I have often had the thought that it seems like everyone else got the guide-book to relationships except me. I, like many of you, am someone who was raised as in a context that did not prize or promote emotional self-inquiry, self-connection and direct communication. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, anger, shame or dissatisfaction with your life, there is space for you here. I practice mindfulness-based therapy, which means that in our work together I may invite you to pause or slow down so that we can bring curiosity to your inner world. Your experience is important and, if we work together, I commit to walking along side you in what is an act of courage not acknowledged enough: reconnecting with and honoring ourselves. Perhaps you are longing for a more satisfying way of existing in this world. Not to fret, this has been the case for many of us and the path back home to an aligned state of being has been tread by many before you. I have helped many like you and would be delighted to explore working together.

I believe that many of our struggles, whether in our relationships or within ourselves, often stem from unmet needs for safety, understanding, and belonging. In our work together, we'll explore these core needs and the patterns that might be keeping you stuck.

Hello! I’m Jackie, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (which is just a fancy way of saying therapist). I’ve been serving teens and adults as a mental health therapist for the past ten years in (and around) Portland, Oregon. I worked for 5 years at a community college as a counselor and taught various courses such as college success and career exploration and understand the variety of challenges college students face with mental health, relationships, finding their path in life and more. My ideal client is someone who is ready to engage in reclaiming their personal power. Therapy is just as much about unlearning, as it is learning. I enjoy working with folks who have a history of "people pleasing" and who have experienced emotional abuse. In particular I enjoy working with those who have experienced narcissistic abuse, and are looking to come back into contact with feeling grounded in their own reality again. I have a broad range of experience working with folks from many different walks of life. What I can help you with is finding a way to feel at peace, and guide you towards feeling stronger and more centered. We will do this by processing your lived experiences, how this has impacted you and by implementing new ways of being and thinking. I invite you to reach out to me if any of this resonates with you. Starting therapy can be a daunting endeavor to embark on. The world has been an exceptionally hard place these past few years. You deserve some support, some peace, and the gift of self care. I am here and ready to support you.

Starting therapy can be hard. It can take some looking to find the right fit. Let's see if I am the right person to help you sort through your concerns or challenges. I do a free consultation with all new patients and encourage you to reach out to me with questions. I have worked with students throughout my nearly 10 years of clinical experience. I was a university counselor at 2 college counseling centers (University of Wisconsin-Madison and University of Michigan-Ann Arbor). I have helped students face some of the following challenges: school stress (imposter syndrome, procrastination, falling short of potential, and perfectionism), family issues, relationship challenges, break ups, identity changes and challenges. I also have helped people with anxiety, depression, trauma, COVID-adjustment related stress, and other a variety of other reasons people come to therapy).

I see therapy as a place for people to be deeply understood and gently challenged to take action on what they value most. I use a collaborative, strengths-based approach to support what is already working for you, including your innate resilience and knowledge, while also targeting areas of struggle. I recognize that healing and change happen in the context of genuine, consistent, and intentional relationships, and strive to bring these things into therapy along with techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I also deeply value feminist, queer, and liberation psychologies and draw upon these wisdoms to explore the struggle of being human from a social justice lens. Relatedly, my understanding of systems of oppression, and therefore my orientation to therapeutic practice, are informed by my identities as a White, Jewish, pansexual cisgender woman.

"I am a failure." -"I am broken." -"I have nothing to offer." -"If I make changes, everyone will hate me." -"I can't change." ...Do these sound familiar? You've been trying to solve everything on your own but you're feeling stuck. You really need a space where you can talk through ALL of the jumbled up thoughts and feelings inside, because you're starting to feel like a pressure cooker. I'm a LGBTQIA+ and relationship affirming therapist specializing in trans and nonbinary wellness. I'm experienced with providing counseling to folks across the lifespan, and in and around the gender binary. I'm a staunch believer that all people have the resources inside themselves to make changes toward becoming ever more healthy, connected, and complex. The focus of my approach is self-acceptance. This means that I'm not going to push you to talk about things you're not ready to talk about yet. Instead, we'll make space for you to examine YOUR process toward making the changes YOU want in your life--because it's about damn time. And "I can't change" is, well, bullsh*t.

The human experience presents unique challenges, opportunities, victories, and struggles for us all; we experience life and our feelings on various spectrums in shared systems: Sometimes the universal feelings of sadness become clinical depression. Sometimes the universal feeling of nervousness can become clinical anxiety. We describe difficulties in processing life events in terms of trauma. We look at compounding impact of transitions as stress. Therapy presents a unique opportunity to join with a trained helper in a safe environment for growth, healing, and change: both in feeling differently and exploring life changes. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who relies upon the experiential approaches of Gestalt Therapy and story-shaping techniques of narrative therapy. I regularly incorporate the techniques from evidenced-based interventions in cognitive-behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy, and solution-focused brief therapy in treatment planning and assessment. I encourage you to give therapy a chance - say 3 sessions and consider how you feel about continuing. Let's explore your goals and consider a plan for growth, healing, and change. I will work collaboratively with you in treatment planning, providing regular clinical assessments to gauge your progress, and give you practical homework to make change happen.
