Welcome! I am a clinical psychologist and drama therapist, seeing individuals and couples in New York. I work with adults and teens ages 15+. Clients I work with are often seeking to reduce distress, trust themselves more, and feel more equipped in their life journeys. A primary aim of treatment is to increase self-awareness and connection to the body, freeing a more expansive self, and allowing old patterns and obstacles (i.e. emotional avoidance, self-criticism) to melt away. Therapy can help reveal how your past is impacting your present, which often leads to self-compassion, and healing and change in the present. Perhaps you are wanting to feel more comfortable with the unknown, whether that be challenging emotions, uncertainty about the future, or existential questions, like what is the meaning of my one precious life? We are living through uncertain times collectively and individually, and therapy with me is a space where these questions are welcomed. I believe the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of healing, and I show up in the room with warmth and authenticity. My approach is integrative. I have advanced training in an attachment-based psychodynamic approach called Interpersonal Reconstructive Therapy, and in experiential, creative, somatic-based approaches including drama therapy and internal family systems. I also practice mindfulness and am an artist myself, and this informs the work I do. My approach is person-centered, which means I adapt treatment based on the unique individual(s) I am sitting with. I have extensive experience in working with LGBTQ+ clients, those with a history of trauma, folks navigating illness, and other healers and artists. I am part of Mount Sinai Health Partners, and remain involved in training of doctoral trainees at Mount Sinai. I am presently on the faculty of the NYU Masters in Drama Therapy program, and was previously an Assistant Professor in the Psychiatry Department at Mount Sinai. I have worked and trained in hospitals, including in adult and adolescent transgender healthcare, in outpatient centers, Veterans hospitals, and counseling centers.
Let me tell you a little bit more about me. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over twenty years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. I have always loved helping others. My passion for working with people in their 20s and 30s stems from years of working with children and adolescents in schools. I’ve helped students find their own path into adulthood and see my current work as a continuation of offering that guidance and support. Previous clients describe me as very kind, empathetic, non-judgmental, and caring. Counseling is in my blood, it's all I have ever done and I feel as passionate about it today as I did when I started.
I am a clinical psychologist working with emerging adults and couples, specializing in issues around gender and sexuality as well as creativity and artistic identity. In practice, I believe in the utility of a strong working alliance, and strive to make you feel both understood and empowered throughout the evolution of treatment. While psychodynamic in orientation, I view my practice as integrative. Looking at patterns present in affect, behavior, and cognition, as well as through interpersonal experience, I endeavor to meet each patient where they are. I have extensive experience in couples and group therapy, particularly with non-monogamous and queer-identified populations. My clinical approach is informed by Emotion Focused Psychotherapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness. At the same time, developmental history and early attachment patterns remain fundamental to my understanding of people. I view it as an immense privilege, coupled with high responsibility, to be entrusted with someone’s vulnerability. I earned my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at CUNY City College. I also hold a Masters in Violin Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, where I subsequently served as a therapist in residence. I was formerly a violinist in the NYC-based quartet, ETHEL. My musical background and capacity for self-observation continue to inform my practice as a therapist. It is my experience that therapy provides a valuable stage, one on which you and I can imagine a different repertoire of human experience together.

I believe everyone is an artist. My therapy works with the creative souls in all of my clients, from dormant creatives to professional artists. Unfortunately, we all experience trauma of some kind during our lives. Traumatic experiences leave scars on our bodies and our minds that can't speak through words. However, we can listen to and understand our unspeakable pain through the creative arts. Art and creativity are the guides that lead us to healing and solace. Many individuals that I see are feelings stuck in a relationship--with themselves, a parent, a sibling, a partner, a colleague, or a friend. TriBeCa Therapy is a center for psychotherapy that was founded on the assumption that human beings are original, imaginative, inspired, and inventive. We particularly love our work with young adults and college students and are connected to issues they deal with. Issues related to sex and dating, drugs and drinking, depression and anxiety and academic pressures aren’t topics that will freak us out. We can handle it. College students frequently discuss with us challenges such as: making friends in ways that don’t involve alcohol, making friends as a person of color, navigating social situations that demand connecting with strangers (like in the cafeteria) and finding “their people.” We work to create a partnership that takes these challenges on together, trying new strategies, taking increasingly bigger risks and dealing with the disappointments and celebrating the successes that follow. College is a time when many young adults are dealing with very adults issues like sex, sexual assault, eating disorders, substance abuse, managing money, race, class, and career choices. Too much stress can be overwhelming and will affect our concentration, stamina, and clarity of mind. The very nature of trauma is the experience of too much, a feeling of being overwhelmed. My specialty is in Creativity and Trauma and how one informs the other. This is not easy work, but it can be fun. We use what is called a Bottom Up approach, in combination with a Top Down. What this means is we learn to tune into our body brain and not just our head brain. As a Creative Arts psychotherapist and trauma specialist I've discovered ways to work that help you heal, feel better, and help you make more sense out of your life. When we meet first we find out what is going on, what has gone on, and how we want to use our time together.
