Therapists for college students near New York, NY
I founded Saltaire Psychology PLLC because I believe everyone can use a little help dealing with the chaotic moments in life, including breakups, medical issues, or deaths of loved oneer. I’m here to help you get through those difficult moments and grow from them. The key to building a strong therapeutic relationship is being genuine, providing unconditional support, and showing empathy, and that’s what I try to caaaprovide in my practice. My integrative approach utilizes humanistic, existential, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral techniques. I completed my Ph.D. at Fordham University and my internship/post-doctoral training at the Brooklyn VA. I have worked with diverse patients with a wide range of concerns including life transitions, relationship distress, cancer, chronic illness, insomnia, caregiver distress, anxiety, depression, and trauma. I don’t believe that everyone needs to stay in therapy for years and years. Sometimes all you need is a few sessions with a professional. Whether the problems are short-term or long-term, big or small, we can work through them together.
You might look like you have things together on the outside—but internally, you’re dealing with anxiety, overthinking, and feeling like everyone else has it figured out except you. Sound familiar? College can be a time of growth and excitement, but I know it can also feel overwhelming and isolating, too. I work with college students who are dealing with anxiety, stress, relationship drama, and that constant “what am I doing with my life?” feeling. I’m not a “sit in silence” therapist; I take an active and collaborative approach, which means I’ll ask questions, give feedback, and help you actually make sense of what’s going on (and what to do about it). I'll give you practical tools you can actually use in your day-to-day life, and together we’ll work on building confidence and setting boundaries so you can work towards feeling more like yourself and less "stuck" in patterns that aren't serving you. If you’re ready for therapy that feels real, supportive, and actually helpful, let’s connect.
Do you find yourself relentlessly pursuing the expectations of others without considering what you expect or want for yourself? Early adulthood can be tumultuous, with major life transitions, evolving relationship dynamics, and challenging academic or professional responsibilities. Frequent changes and uncertainty may leave you feeling burned out and may trigger stress, frustration, or symptoms of anxiety or depression. Sometimes we feel overwhelmed by everything that we believe we need to do and need to be. I will help you challenge your assumptions which may have you feeling stuck. My goal is to provide you with a welcoming space to be heard and to process your thoughts and feelings. Let’s explore new perspectives, answer thought-provoking questions, and examine your self-talk. Insights from those discussions will help us identify behavioral patterns which may be contributing to your distress. We will collaboratively develop a plan to adjust those reactions to create balance in your life, while prioritizing what is practical and important to you. This personalized approach will help you build confidence, manage stress, and effectively communicate with those you care about or work closely with. You and I will leverage your strengths to develop a more sustainable lifestyle with meaning and purpose. MSW, Columbia University BS, Cornell University

Share your college struggle with me, and I will provide you with a safe space to grow. Privately and at your pace we will explore who you are inside, carefully unpacking what is at the root of every worry, your sadness, anger, or any other uncomfortable experience during this initial foray into adulthood. We will suss out your internal conflicts by exploring your attempts to master problems of the past by repeating patterns in the present, working your known issues toward resolution. No trauma is too great or too small for us to talk about. Our efforts will impart more freedom and equanimity in your choices, and open you up to feel more passionate and alive. I use an active relational psychoanalytic approach to therapeutically make meaning of psychological and emotional difficulties through an ongoing conversation. You simply talk about what is bothering you and free associate to your life. Collaboratively, we will examine how and why your patterns in living, though intelligent adaptations and defenses that once helped you to survive, may no longer serve you, so that you may accept and care for yourself and have a richer, fuller life. Our alliance will help you find balance in work, love and play, and will develop your agency to manage every life challenge with autonomy and self-confidence. Psychoanalysis offers lasting change, and finding just the right therapist for you is essential to the process. Reach out for a free consultation today to see if we make a good fit.
I specialize in treating anxiety, panic, stress, OCD, relationship challenges, and transitions. Are your thoughts and behaviors self-defeating at times, blocking you from what you really want in life? We all see the world through different lenses, which are formed and strengthened by our genes, the messages we received growing up, and our accumulated experiences. Sometimes this lens can become distorted, causing us to perceive and interact with the world in unhelpful ways. Certain thinking and behavioral patterns may get in the way of relationships with others, with work, and with ourselves. Psychotherapy can be a really important resource for preserving self-care and building resiliency. Whether you are seeking therapy to work on a specific concern or goal, to get through a tough time, or to understand yourself better, I strive to provide my clients with a supportive, collaborative, and judgment-free space. Our work together will involve understanding your unique patterns and developing skills to cope with unhelpful thoughts and overwhelming emotions, decrease unworkable behaviors, and increase value-driven living. Email for a complimentary phone consultation. For policy and pricing FAQ, please view www.nicolereinertherapy.com.
At the heart of my work is the belief that growth begins when we turn inward; not only to solve problems, but to truly listen. Beneath stress, self-doubt, and burnout is often a quieter call for balance, meaning, and wholeness. In our sessions, I’ll invite you to slow down, tune in, and reconnect with parts of yourself that may have been overshadowed by deadlines, expectations, or the pressure to achieve. My approach blends psychodynamic and somatic (body-centered) therapy to explore both your inner world (unconscious patterns, images, and beliefs) and the lived experience of your body, where insight and change can take root. I’m LGBTQIA+ affirming and work with students navigating anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, creative blocks, identity questions, and challenges with eating and body image, relationships, self-worth, or belonging. I’m particularly drawn to working with artists and creatives. What matters most to me is creating a space that is open, safe, and judgment-free; a space where you can explore who you are, discover your own meaning, and move toward a life that feels both authentic and sustainable. I am passionate about providing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to individuals of all ages who are struggling with anxiety, depression, social challenges, fears, phobias, and OCD. I have worked to effectively adapt TEAM-CBT tools and techniques to help children and adolescents, while connecting with them in a way that is relatable and engaging. I also provide support to parents navigating the challenges of parenting. I have lived and worked on the Upper East Side with my family for over 6 years, so I understand the unique challenges and demands city families face. Therapy may feel like endless talking without any results or improvement in your life, but if you’re ready to work hard to meet your treatment goals, I use an approach to therapy that can give you the change you are looking for. Together we will create a treatment plan that reflects your goals, and the changes you want to see in your life. My approach to therapy is active, collaborative, and results driven. I provide my patients with concrete skills to overcome their anxiety, depression, and fears to help them get back to living a more satisfying, and enjoyable life. I push my patients to work hard to get better, so that they can achieve the results they desire. I try to develop a caring, collaborative, and supportive relationship with all my patients and their families. I strive to understand you and your family dynamics so that I can be the most effective therapist possible. Utilizing an evidence based, and highly effective approach called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, you will see noticeable change in your life within 8-10 sessions. I monitor symptoms at the beginning and end of every session so we know precisely how we are doing towards meeting your goals. As your comfort with utilizing these skills improves, you will learn how to cope with the challenges you face and soon feel ready to handle them on your own! While I hate saying good-bye to patients, it is very rewarding to end our therapy sessions knowing that our time together has provided my patients with the tools to be happier and more confident in their life.
