Whether you're going through a difficult life transition, need to process painful or traumatic events, need help managing complex emotions, or want to strengthen your relationships with your family, friends, or yourself, I am here to collaborate with you to figure out the best path forward. Therapy illuminates the patterns we find ourselves in, and also provides ways of coping with the distress resulting from these patterns. Through understanding how our past and present circumstances affect us, we cultivate empathy for ourselves and those around us. I believe in the healing nature of a strong therapeutic relationship. I will work to facilitate growth in your natural areas of strength, while also deepening your understanding of what causes pain. My approach is collaborative and individualized, and includes Relational Psychodynamic techniques, metaphor, CBT techniques, and/or Mindfulness. I look forward to hearing from you, and to learn about how we can work together!

College and graduate school can be exciting, but they can also feel overwhelming. You may be struggling with stress, anxiety, low mood, loneliness, relationship challenges, questions about your identity, or the pressure to keep up academically while managing everything else in your life. For some students, adjusting to life away from home, navigating independence, or recovering from difficult experiences such as trauma or past hardships can make this time especially challenging. I'm Kate Conway, a Mental Health Counselor Fellow (MHC-F) at Modern Talk, working under the clinical supervision of our licensed directors. Working with college students and young adults is at the heart of what I do — I have a deep understanding of the unique pressures this stage of life brings, and I know how much courage it takes to ask for support when you're in the middle of it. My approach is rooted in psychodynamic and relational therapy — I work with you to understand the patterns, experiences, and relationships shaping how you think, feel, and move through the world, while drawing on practical, skills-based tools when the work calls for it. Whether you're looking for support during a difficult period, trying to better understand yourself, or hoping to build healthier coping skills and relationships, I'm here. I offer a warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space where you can talk openly, gain insight, and develop the tools to navigate this chapter with greater confidence and resilience.
There are times when we ask ourselves questions we feel we have no answers to: "Why am I not happy?", "How do I improve my life?" and "Will I ever find a solution to this problem that is consistent and stressful?". Have hope! The answers are there inside of you, waiting to be discovered. I strive to support my clients without judgement, challenging those who are ready to explore themes of personal responsibility, meaning, and resolution. Through genuine client/therapist interactions, the emotional impact of trauma, loss, depression, and/or anxiety can be relieved, and answers found. I have a wide range of experience in helping those who may be suffering from anxiety, depression, trauma, or life transitions. Working with older adolescents to older adults, I find that combining a person-centered therapy model with CBT, Gestalt, and Mindfulness interventions can be especially helpful. It is my belief that therapy should be an experience of thoughtfulness, reflection and discovery. In-the-moment therapeutic experiments, music therapy, and artistic mindfulness are all tools that can be used to stir the creative process towards finding the answers one is looking for, and the journey thereafter.

Finding the right therapist can be a daunting task — developing a connection with someone is vulnerable and challenging, but it can be well worth it. I am committed to equipping and empowering my clients with the necessary tools to effectively understand and manage their mental health. In my work with teens and adults, my number one priority is creating a comfortable, person-centered, and safely challenging environment where you can move at your own pace and trust that you will be met with understanding, support, and respect. I provide a trauma-informed, empathetic space to explore difficult prior experiences, without rush or judgment. I am especially passionate about anxiety disorders, OCD, trauma, and queer and trans community work. As a proud member of the queer community myself, I understand the importance of LGBTQ+ visibility in the therapeutic space. While I am formally trained in ERP, ACT, and LGBTQ+ centered CBT, I am adaptable in my treatment style and I believe that supporting client needs and fostering the therapeutic relationship is key. Having moved countries multiple times, I deeply understand the stressors and challenges associated with settling into a new place, leaving behind friends, family, and pets. I can help you navigate these challenges and build meaningful connections and a fulfilling life. My primary focus is on adults who feel unfulfilled or trapped in a gilded cage and those who feel like they don't belong. When working with couples and individuals, my specialties include redistributing the mental load, fostering open communication, resolving conflicts, and reigniting intimacy. I tailor each session to meet the unique needs of my clients, always respecting their individuality and autonomy. I believe that even the most self-destructive behaviors originate from a place of protection. Let’s work together to reframe your relationships with yourself and others, transforming self-loathing and shame into understanding and kindness.
We aim to provide a warm and affirming space that focuses on individuals’ innate strengths and promotes self-acceptance. Through a collaborative and interactive approach, we support our clients by exploring their emotional health and engaging in the change process, to reach their fullest potential.

At all times, I practice person-centered therapy, respecting your self-determination and honoring confidentiality, which helps me promote your best interest and develop a life worth living. I look forward to exploring your personal journey and experience in our work together. My path to becoming a therapist began as a mental health screener for the World Trade Center employees and volunteers who worked at ground zero after 9/11, who faced indescribable tragedy and environmental exposure to an unprecedented event in our nation's history. This experience shaped who I am and the compassionate, patient-focused therapist I strive to be, one that enables me to bring a comprehensive understanding of loss and grief to my practice now. When I’m not in the office, I enjoy spending time in the great outdoors, from hiking the trails to gardening at home. I also love music and volunteering in my community to strengthen connections.

You might be someone who generally has things together. You’re responsible, capable, and used to handling things on your own, but internally, things feel harder than it looks. Your mind may be constantly racing, second-guessing, or getting stuck on certain thoughts. Maybe anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, or stress is making it harder to enjoy school, relationships, or everyday life, or you're navigating a major transition and feeling overwhelmed behind the scenes. I work with students who want to better understand what’s going on internally and learn how to respond differently. Many of my clients are high-achieving and motivated but feel stuck in patterns of anxiety, overthinking, perfectionism, or avoidance that are hard to break alone. Together, we'll work on changing how you relate to difficult thoughts and emotions so they have less power over your daily life. I also work with students coping with chronic illness, chronic pain, or physical symptoms that don’t have clear medical answers. I help clients understand the mind-body connection and how stress, anxiety, and the nervous system can influence physical symptoms while taking their experiences seriously. My approach is practical, collaborative, and warm. I strive to create a space where you feel comfortable sharing what’s on your mind without judgment while building evidence-based skills you can use in everyday life. My goal is to help you feel more confident, resilient, and better equipped to navigate life's challenges.
Being a student can bring a lot of pressure, uncertainty, and emotional weight. If you are feeling stuck, anxious, or carrying pain that is hard to explain, you are not alone. I am here to support you and help you make sense of what you are experiencing in a way that feels honest and respectful. My approach is trauma informed, queer affirming, and non-more pathologizing. I believe your symptoms make sense in the context of your experiences. Together we will explore those patterns with care and curiosity, not judgment. I draw from EMDR, Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Eastern philosophy to support healing, growth, and connection to your values. This work is always shaped by you, your story, your pace, and your goals. If you are ready to begin or just curious about starting, I would be happy to connect.
