Hello and welcome! My counseling practice focuses primarily on work with women, including teens. I specialize in counseling with women who are experiencing disordered eating and body image issues, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationship concerns. Whether you are experiencing a specific concern, struggling with self-esteem or perfectionism, are feeling anxious or depressed, or seeking more connection with others, counseling is a courageous step toward leading a more fulfilling, joyful life. It would be an honor to guide and support you on your journey to self-discovery and healing.
I am a military spouse, former educator, and mother who enjoys working with adolescents and students of all ages. It is my goal to ensure that individuals I have the opportunity to work with understand they have someone who is willing to listen and offer unbiased feedback. I understand that being a college student can be challenging at time, but knowing you have someone who understands and is willing to help guide you through any tough times you may have makes all the difference.
I work with clients who are grappling with anxiety, depression, and stress. Many are dealing with changes in their family, including substance use, codependency, and relationship issues. My clients are diverse but they all want to feel understood, heard, and validated. The most important part of therapy is the rapport between the clinician and the client, which is known as unconditional positive regard. The client needs to feel supported so that they can freely discuss the presenting problem. Throughout this process, I strive to be warm, empathetic, and knowledgeable; clients have previously described me as patient and open minded.

We are passionate about treating the WHOLE person and helping you achieve a balanced and fulfilling life. I firmly believe you are the expert on your own concerns. I believe in the power of a person-centered approach. I believe in collaborating with my clients in order to assist them with understanding their underlying concerns while identifying and utilizing their strengths in order to accomplish their goals. Together, we'll work as a team to clarify your vision for your ideal life. Though you'll be doing the work in your own life, you can feel safe knowing you have a trusted collaborator along the way. My counseling style is warm, creative, and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I consider myself an eclectic therapist, drawing from a number of different approaches, based on the presenting concern of the client "in front of me." I borrow heavily from Cognitive Behavioral Theory, which teaches individuals to challenge and change unhelpful cognitive distortions (e.g. thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes) and behaviors, which can leas to improved emotional regulation along with the development of effective and helpful coping strategies to address concerns and whole life wellness. I grew up here in North Carolina, hailing from Fayetteville. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Queens University of Charlotte in 2012 where I started out working with at-risk youth in community based mental health. I now have over five years post-grad experience providing individual and group therapy. I continued providing a full range of services that helped individuals of various ages and families overcome addiction and mental health concerns along the way. Since graduating with my Masters of Social Work in 2016 from UNC Charlotte, I have worked primarily with college aged students within university counseling centers. I also enjoy supporting future generations in our mental health field by serving as an adjunct professor at UNC Charlotte since 2021. I enjoy working with tweens (12 and up), teens, young adults (18-24) to adults 24+. I celebrate you for taking the first step in this journey towards change - be it big or small. I will be here to support and empower you along the way! I look forward to working with you. Talk soon!
Hi! I'm Shelby, an LCSW with a passion for helping young adults find their ways. I have been working with people experiencing mental health challenges in a myriad of ways since 2021, and have compassion for those in transitional periods of their life, or who may be feeling 'lost'. If you are looking to figure out who you are or are looking to understand yourself better, I can help. Please don't hesitate to reach out!
"I feel broken and I'm pissed about it." You were independent, high achieving, organized. Then you got the medical diagnosis, and everything changed. If you have been through a stressful or traumatic medical illness, you know firsthand the challenges of building a care team that you trust and coming into a new relationship with your body. My role is to partner with you as you face these challenges. If you are caregiving for individuals as they move through physical changes, it can be difficult to find balance. I can help you find your footing as you navigate caring for self and other, face difficult medical decisions, or move through anticipatory grief in the context of potentially complex relationship dynamics. "I just want to get back to normal." "What does it even mean to 'live with' this? How can they say that?" "This is happening on top of everything else! I don't have time to slow down, I'm in pain, and I can't sleep." "I had trauma before. This just makes dealing with it harder." These thoughts and reactions are not uncommon. Individualized, trauma-informed psychotherapy can help. To learn more, please reach out for a free phone consultation. I am happy to address any questions or concerns you may have prior to initiating therapy, and I look forward to meeting you soon.
Whether you are new to therapy or someone who is looking to explore a deeper, more profound approach, I am here to help you learn the tools and skills to create positive change in your life. My practice is about creating a safe space where clients are able to heal from anxieties, past difficulties, and traumas by increasing their awareness and acceptance of the different parts that make up who we are as human beings. In doing so, clients are able to release the burdens of the past and find new direction in their lives. I specialize in treating Trauma/ PTSD, Anxiety, Self-Esteem, LGBTQIA+ populations and more. My approach is to go in depth and explore core issues fundamental to well-being. Together, we will treat the causes, not just the symptoms. Getting to the root of mental health challenges facilitates deep transformation and healing from the inside out. I promise to offer you a safe space for exploration with compassion and an open mind. I employ evidence-based models that are individualized to meet your specific needs. I am certified in EMDR, which helps clients process and move past the emotional and physical pain rooted in traumatic memories. I also employ approaches from IFS, DBT and ACT. I am trained in mindfulness and self compassion based approaches and incorporate this into therapy.
I am a licensed psychotherapist specializing in the treatment of anxiety and childhood trauma. I have clinical experience across crisis intervention, substance use treatment, and outpatient therapy settings, working with individuals experiencing acute distress as well as ongoing mental health concerns. My approach is grounded in the belief that unresolved trauma can significantly influence emotional regulation, self-concept, and interpersonal functioning. Clients often seek treatment when they feel “stuck,” overwhelmed, or notice persistent patterns related to past experiences that interfere with daily functioning, relationships, or goal attainment. I provide a supportive, structured therapeutic environment where clients can explore these concerns, develop insight, and work toward sustainable change. I utilize evidence-based modalities including Psychodynamic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Treatment focuses on increasing self-awareness, processing traumatic experiences, addressing maladaptive thought and behavior patterns, and strengthening coping skills. Therapy is collaborative and tailored to each client’s clinical needs and treatment goals. I welcome individuals seeking to engage in therapy to address anxiety, trauma-related concerns, and personal growth.

It’s not always one defining event—often, it’s the cumulative impact of stress, anxiety, low self-worth, and unprocessed experiences that gradually erode your sense of well-being. You might be noticing a persistent undercurrent of worry, emotional exhaustion, difficulty concentrating, or a critical inner voice that’s hard to silence. Perhaps depressive symptoms have taken hold, or past experiences are continuing to show up in ways you can’t control. I work with teens and adults who are ready to explore what's beneath the surface and begin the work of healing. My approach is trauma-informed and grounded in evidence-based practices. Whether we're unpacking the impact of trauma, exploring ways to better manage mental health symptoms or rebuilding your sense of self, we'll approach the process collaboratively and at a pace your nervous system can manage. You don't have to have anything figured out to start the therapy process. You just have to show up - and I'll meet you there. I encourage you to reach out if you think we will be a good fit!
