I provide individual therapy to adolescents and young adults. My approach centers building connections, offering compassion and staying curious about who you are in the past, present and future; helping you become the author to your own story. I want you to feel seen and heard throughout our time working together. Although I welcome working with a range of client concerns, my areas of special focus include navigating disordered eating, eating disorders, body image, shame and perfectionism, identity exploration and anxiety management. I practice from an intersectional feminist, holistic style approach. Many of my clients are in the early stages of exploring their relationship with identity, food and their bodies. Like all of us, I am a work-in-progress but I constantly strive to be culturally and gender affirming and responsive in my daily practice. Prior to becoming a licensed therapist, I worked in community based non-profits throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota. I remain passionate about advocating and supporting youth and families during their healing and growth journeys, as well as promoting access to care. Please reach out for a free initial consultation to begin your journey.

Are you looking for someone to connect to who will listen, empathize, and provide non-judgmental feedback? Are you someone who struggles with emotional expression, anger, and thinks therapy is "not for you"? Are you adjusting to college life and need a bit of support through the transition? I can help. I am a compassionate, genuine, non-judgmental therapist. I focus on creating a safe space in which each individual feels heard and understood while promoting awareness, growth, and change. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) principles as well as have specialized training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), a trauma-based therapy approach. It can be so intimidating to take the first step of reaching out to a therapist for support. I get it, I've been there myself, and trust me, it's worth it. When you contact me, I promise to provide a warm and professional consultation to help you decide if I can meet your needs and if we would be a good fit to work together.

Think of it as a space designed for you: inclusive, supportive, and focused on helping you feel grounded, confident, and ready to take on what’s next. I'm Julie TenBrook, PHMNP. I'm the owner of Open Minds. Open Minds symbolizes acceptance, on my part, of who you are without judgement. It, also, symbolizes the opening of your mind to change and healing. Being in college is a time of rapid growth. This can be hard. Figuring out how to navigate school, new relationships, new routines and define who you are as a young adult can be stressful. If you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and anxious, I can help. Treatment is tailored to what you need. It is usually multi-modal and not "just" medications or "just" therapy. Everyone's needs are different and we can design a treatment plan that fits you.

I am licensed psychotherapist in New York, Florida, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Utah, and Ohio. I am also a Certified Wellness Counselor. I have been in the mental health field for over 10 years. I have helped adults, children, couples, teens, older adults, and families navigating difficult situations, improve relationships, and thrive. I’m a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, sarcastic human, & fellow unrooter. In a few words, my style is down to earth, collaborative, and relational. Laughter = therapeutic; swearing = basically a pre-req. Oftentimes, the universe seems to enjoy throwing curveballs right when life starts to settle. And it can be damn helpful to have a safe space to sort through it all. I join clients in navigating these ‘unexpecteds’ and strengthening into their ‘you’ in the process.

You can out-think nearly any problem, situation, or person. You are innovative, curious, and perceptive and your intellect has helped you achieve most of your goals. Yet relationships prove difficult, and when you aren't able to think your way out, you retreat into your mind and detach from others. You become more cynical, abrasive, and nihilistic. Your intelligence has shielded you from difficult questions related to your functioning in relationships with others. You want the same sense of satisfaction and value in relationships that you experience nearly everywhere else. You need a judgment-free place to make meaning through the exploration of your life circumstances, beliefs, and values. I encourage deep thinking and questioning. I won't give you worksheets, and I won't try to align your desires and fears with that of the masses. I appreciate your individuality and encourage you to call forth your inventive, independent, and curious self to all areas of life. It is not enough to just observe and study life, you must participate as well. I'm ready when your are.
