Therapists for college students near Ann Arbor, MI
I believe that everyone is unique and holds their own wisdom, and that is a good thing. We all have different walks of life that we can share with others and have others share with us. With this said, I believe in creating a mutual relationship of compassion and learning with clients. Therapy should be non-judgmental and understanding of others’ differences while appreciating and empowering one another. I understand that everyone’s experience is unique, and so I meet clients where they are at. I believe in providing an open mind and a comfortable place for clients to be themselves as we work together to meet their goals. As we create a therapeutic relationship, I will work to help end the cycle of negative feelings by providing the space to open up about the deeper parts of life that bring these emotions to the surface. I will utilize the tools I have to promote a new frame of mind and coping strategies that fit the client’s needs. Engaging in therapy can feel very vulnerable. Being open with someone new can be tough, but know that you are not alone. I’ll maintain the same openness that I want for my clients and make it a priority to keep a comfortable space so we can be present in the moment. Everyone deserves the space to be who they are, process their feelings, and work on what they need. My goal is to be the support system in this journey!
I admire the strength clients show in sharing their vulnerabilities and being self-reflective, so that they can live fulfilling and rich lives – I am privileged to support that growth and to be let into your life for the time that we work together. The therapeutic alliance, or relationship between you and I, is the most important factor in the therapy process. I will create a warm and accepting environment, free of judgments, where you are able to share your vulnerabilities at your own pace. Using an integrative approach, I will collaborate with you to gain insight into your life and create long lasting, positive change. I hope to equip you with enough tools that the world will seem brighter and you will feel ready to tackle life’s obstacles.

Greetings! My goal is to provide a safe, nurturing style of therapy. The most important predictor of success in therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. It is that the client feels the therapist cares about them. We call this the “therapeutic alliance”. I specialize in the areas of body image, couples counseling, perfectionism, addiction, and mood disorders. I offer Christian counseling if a client would like it. I utilize CBT, Motivational Interviewing, art therapy, DBT, all with a warm, compassionate approach.

Life can feel overwhelming, especially when you're coping with anxiety, trauma, loss, or major transitions. You might be carrying pain from the past, struggling with self-blame, or feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns. Whatever you're facing, you don’t have to navigate it alone. I help adults and young adults work through issues like grief, trauma, relationship challenges, and low self-worth. Many of my clients feel burdened by guilt or “what if” thoughts that make it hard to move forward. My approach is warm, collaborative, and rooted in evidence-based practices like EMDR, CBT, and mindfulness.
I have a strong desire to help others feel understood, to confront both joy and pain, and to support others in not only surviving, but reviving and thriving through this one wild and precious life. I have been told I specialize in “you go girl therapy”, and I tend to agree. I want to provide you with support, empathy, a shoulder to cry on, and to join you in celebration dances as you work to meet your goals. Can’t wait to work with you, Mama! Navigating my own path through the great adventure of motherhood has been the greatest and most challenging journey of my life. I understand the pull that mothers feel in so many different directions, and the guilt, pressure, and overwhelming joy that comes with it. Before beginning my journey to becoming a licensed clinician, I worked in career services assisting students and adults in discovering their career paths and meeting their goals. Like many moms, kiddos sparked a change in my own career path. Now, I am able to work with clients moving through their own career transitions, defining success, exploring the tax of motherhood in the corporate world, the anxiety and/or depression around work and work-life, and the unique challenges that come with being both a unique individual and a kick-ass mom. My experience counseling moms, dads, expecting parents, couples, and those in the ecosystem of family, such as grandparents and caregivers, has solidified my personal belief that there is no one way to be a great caregiver. Let’s find what works for you, brings you joy, and helps you to realize your full potential during this wonderful, wearing, and wild moment in time.
I consider the relationship between client and therapist one of the most important factors in therapy. As a therapist, my goal is to create a comfortable, non-judgmental space so I can assist others in exploring negative patterns in their lives and help them develop new tools to foster positive coping skills. I utilize a holistic approach to therapy, with special focus on the body and mind and how they interact. As a registered yoga teacher, my treatment approach places emphasis on turning inward and reconnecting with the body to help release stored emotions. I use a trauma-informed approach to life issues with clients and incorporate mindfulness skills, somatic movement, and breathwork into my therapy practice. I specialize in treating anxiety disorders, PTSD, and mood disorders. Additionally, I work with clients who are experiencing grief and loss, life transitions, addiction, caregiver stress, interpersonal/relationship problems, and codependency.
For most people, there comes a time when life’s stressors become too great for the individual to manage on their own. Unhealthy thought patterns and coping behaviors can add to this stress and even isolate the person from their usual support system. Those that seek assistance through therapy may find that they are able to learn new ways of coping with stress. Or, they may learn to view situations through a different perspective. The intervention or change for each person varies based on that individual’s needs. I look forward to building a partnership with my clients to meet each individual’s specific goals and desired outcomes. In order for a therapist and client to make significant change, a strong therapeutic relationship is essential. I aim to provide a respectful, safe, and supportive environment where the client and therapist are free to be honest. By building this trustful partnership, we are able to identify and address the individual’s specific goals and needs. I believe clients are the experts on their own lives, and so I meet them right where they are at in their healing journey. From there, we’ll work together to determine a plan that effectively addresses their unique needs. I believe in the importance of tailoring therapeutic interventions to each specific client to maximize positive outcomes.

Being a therapist in a large college community has provided me many opportunities to help students adjust to the challenges of academic life. It seems something always comes up and throws you off your square. I hope I can help you navigate student life either academic related, relationships. loneliness,
I work with children, adolescents, and young adults. I am an MSU grad myself, and currently have both present and former clients who are students at State. I am offering short-term crises-type services at no charge to students affected by the recent tragic events on campus. Since I also have a busy practice in Novi, which is about an hour away from MSU, I would need to hold our sessions virtually. I have about 30 years experience as a therapist, and I would like to be of help during this very difficult time.
Mental health issues are often most noticeable in our relationships. Clients I work with tend to experience anxiety, overwhelming emotions, and self-esteem issues that feel especially present when they are with others. This can impact your dating life, your ability to find and maintain friendships, and your satisfaction in longer term romantic and familial relationships. I help clients identify painful patterns in their lives, then dig deeper to understand where they are coming from. After working together, clients feel more in control of their emotions and relationships, which leads to a greater sense of calm in their lives.
