I have trained in college counseling, community and hospital settings and specialize in treatment interventions tailored to the needs of college-age students. I am a staff psychologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and faculty member at Harvard Medical School. I provide individual therapy for adults and have experience working with a wide variety of presenting concerns, including mood disorders, anxiety, and trauma. My goal is to create a warm and genuinely accepting environment in order for you to feel comfortable collaborating with me to tackle your stressors together. I generally utilize a cognitive-behavioral approach (CBT), integrating other evidence-based theoretical orientations as needed to provide personalized treatment based on your needs and preferences. I prioritize using strengths-based, trauma-informed, multiculturally sensitive methodology. Effective therapy begins with a strong therapeutic relationship between the client and the therapist. Please reach out so I can support you on your journey. If I am not the right fit for you, I am happy to give you referrals so you can find the best therapist for you!

Seeking therapy and finding the right therapist can be difficult and daunting. My initial goal when meeting with new clients is to create a comfortable and safe environment. Wherever you are in your pursuit of receiving help is where I accept you and begin our work together. Wherever you are is a good place to start. The practice I opened with close colleagues is called Elysium Counseling LLC. “Elysium” by definition is a place of ideal happiness or a peaceful state of mind. While that may feel unrealistic to obtain by some, we help our clients grow to believe they can achieve just that. I want my clients to know that change is possible, that they have unique skills and abilities, and are worthy and capable of creating a life they want to live. Part of that process invites clients to be challenged in new ways, even if it’s hard. I value and prioritize relationships with my clients, as I believe a strong therapeutic alliance is the main contributor to successful treatment outcomes. Life is complicated. It’s my job to help clients navigate all that comes with it as best they can.

Therapy offers the space for self-reflection, for identifying improved adaptive attitudes, and generally, can aid our personal growth. You are welcome to try out the way I facilitate these processes.

College can feel like a mix of excitement and pressure all at once. Between academics, relationships, figuring out who you are, and trying to keep up with everything, it’s really easy to feel overwhelmed, anxious, or like you’re just barely holding it together. In therapy, I try to create a space where you don’t have to have it all figured out. We slow things down, make sense of what’s going on, and work together to find ways to feel more grounded and more like yourself again. I really believe people already have strengths in them, even if it doesn’t feel accessible in the moment. My job is to help you reconnect with those strengths and figure out how to use them in real life, especially during stressful or confusing seasons. I work with college students and adults navigating anxiety, depression, relationship stress, trauma, and big life transitions. I use approaches like CBT, mindfulness, and body-based (somatic) work to help you understand what you’re feeling and actually shift it in a practical, supportive way. My fee for a 50-minute session is $180. I also offer a limited number of sliding scale spots ($90–$100) to help make therapy more accessible.

Hi, my name is Jake and I’m a therapist in Brookline. I meet with clients in person and online. I enjoy working with adults of all ages and particularly young adults and people early in their careers who are searching for more meaning, fulfillment and balance in life. Regardless of the main issue that brings individuals into therapy, many of my clients struggle with some type of self-defeating narrative, or what I call, an unworkable story about themselves or about some aspect of their lives. I enjoy helping people uncover these unworkable patterns and develop more effective ways of viewing themselves and their lives. Working with me involves exploring what gets in the way of more openness, awareness and engagement with life, and then practicing increasing these ways of being through exercises (such as mindfulness approaches), use of metaphor to shift perspective and other behavioral moves. It’s important to me that I meet every client where he or she is at and work collaboratively toward creating the life you want for yourself. I look forward to connecting with you!
