At Anam Cara Counseling, our mission is to foster healing within individuals, families, and the community by addressing emotional wounds, nurturing resilience, and championing mental wellness. We provide trauma-informed mental health counseling for adolescents, adults, veterans, and families through a variety of evidence-based and experiential approaches tailored to each individual’s unique needs. Our practice offers traditional talk therapy alongside specialized services such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Trauma-Focused Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy, mindfulness-based approaches, somatic and nervous system-informed interventions, and other trauma-focused modalities. Equine-assisted psychotherapy is a powerful experiential form of therapy in which clients interact with horses for personal insight, emotional regulation, connection, and growth. No riding or horse experience is required. We believe healing happens in the context of safe, attuned relationships. Many individuals come to us during some of the most vulnerable, confusing, or painful periods of their lives, and we strive to create a space where they feel seen, supported, and empowered to move toward healing at their own pace. Our work emphasizes emotional safety, authenticity, nervous system regulation, self-understanding, and resilience. At Anam Cara, we recognize the deep connection between mind, body, relationships, and environment. Whether in the therapy office, outdoors, or alongside the herd, we seek to provide compassionate, individualized care that honors each person’s story, strengths, and capacity for growth and healing.

Hi and welcome to my page! If you are reading this, you may be on the fence about seeking help or confused about what to look for in a therapist, so here are some things you may find helpful to know about me. I am passionate about helping college students and young adults navigate the challenges of this period of life. I work best with those who struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, self-worth, imposter syndrome, body image, identity, sexual and spiritual identities, trauma/PTSD, codependency and relationship challenges. Basically, I'd love to walk beside you as you figure out who you are, want you want in life, how to be in healthy relationships and find meaningful work, how to balance academics with self-care and all kinds of things! I am passionate about your age group because meaningful, positive changes is so achievable and within reach for you, and I really could have used some guidance that was missing from my life when I was in college. My favorite therapeutic approaches include EMDR, mindfulness based cognitive therapy, and holistic approaches that help us unify mind, body and spirit.

Do you identify as gender diverse (transgender, non-binary, gender queer, etc)? Are currently questioning or discovering your gender and/or needing a referral letter for medical transition steps? Jack Garner, LCSW is a licensed clinical therapist in the states of Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Illinois and is a member of WPATH. Their practice is offered online where they provide individual counseling and coaching as well as referral letters for medical transition steps, such as HRT and surgeries (Note, all WPATH referral letters are provided under the informed consent model - meaning NO gate-keeping practices and it takes just one session to obtain your letter). I identify as gender diverse (AFAB, Non-Binary, Transmasc), which allows me to have a unique understanding, both personal and professional, that is not often found in the therapy world. I am passionate about serving our community and understand what it is like to question your gender, experience dysphoria, and take medical transition steps. If you are looking for a therapist who truly understands you and has 'been there' themselves - I am here for you! I look forward to meeting you and will absolutely consider it my honor to assist you in discovering and/or furthering your path to authenticity, wholeness, and joy. I am originally from California, but have called Colorado (Denver) my home for the last thirteen years. While I do miss the ocean, I love being in the mountains and all they have to offer. When I am not working, I am often playing in my garden, doing something in the kitchen, spending time with friends and family, or traveling. I am the same person during session as I am outside of session; laid back, a little goofy, genuinely curious about others’ lives, and compassionate. I use she/her pronouns. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) and am licensed to see clients in Colorado, Indiana, Florida and Nevada. I have been practicing therapy since 2013 and truly enjoy working with my clients. I love learning about how trauma and stress can impact our minds, bodies and nervous systems and the ways we can heal and start to feel better. I am a Certified Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist as well as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). I often use a mixture of EMDR, Somatic Experiencing (SE), attachment, parts focused, and mindfulness techniques to help clients begin to unpack stressful or traumatic events and begin to integrate a sense of healing back into their minds and bodies. These techniques can be helpful for clients struggling with anxiety and depression symptoms, who have experienced one or more traumatic events, substance use, emotion regulation, or uncomfortable body sensations.
