I have been working as a licensed clinical psychologist for over 20 years, serving adults in both individual and couples’ therapy. My style is supportive and non-judgmental in order to create a safe and trusting atmosphere. As a Humanist, I believe that people are always striving to succeed, but at times are blocked by fears, doubts and loss of clear identity. I see my clients as collaborators in the therapeutic process, and together we create a personal path for growth and change.

Life can be challenging. I believe psychotherapy with a therapist who is a good match can help one more successfully navigate those challenges. I work collaboratively with my clients. I aim to create a nonjudgmental and supportive environment to explore difficult issues together -- to better understand what one is currently facing, to help manage those difficulties, and to ultimately make life more rewarding and meaningful. I have over 30 years of clinical experience and have worked in a variety of settings including university counseling centers (Univ. of Illinois, Univ. of Michigan, Northwestern Univ., The School of the Art Institute of Chicago), and LGBTQ and feminist services (Howard Brown Health Center, Planned Parenthood, Chicago Women's Health Center). I maintain a general practice where I see a wide diversity of men and women for issues including anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and identity.

Taking action to reach out for therapy can be a challenge and here you are taking that leap of faith, making the first step towards an improved you! Together we will achieve your goals by developing healthier coping skills, improving your communication, and exploring and setting boundaries. I specialize in treating those experiencing depression, anxiety, addiction and more. Currently, I predominantly work with young adults and adults. My treatment focus stems from ACT, DBT, and CBT with an emphasis on skills and acceptance. Therapy with me will have you focused on the present moment and provide you with a renewed sense of self. Hi there, are you looking for someone to talk to? I have Friday evening openings. I'm good at helping my clients with loneliness, feeling disconnected, longing for love and pushing people away. Your symptoms will improve over time, but I don't focus on correcting your symptoms. I prefer to look at our shared human conditions, earning your trust over time so we can take an in-depth look at what hurts beneath the surface, and why you feel so stuck. I'm here to listen, and help you reconcile with yourself. My therapy approach is respectful and candid. You are welcome to take the lead, or I can initiate conversations until you feel more comfortable. Together we will learn more about what you need, and why you feel at odds with yourself or the world. We will pay attention to neglected parts of yourself, be it feelings or memories, and find kindness for them. I promise it can get better. I want to help. Let's talk.

I view therapy as a place for healing, growth, and exploration, and I am honored to help facilitate that process as a therapist. Perhaps you are feeling a bit hesitant about seeking therapy, or perhaps you are feeling determined as you take this step towards wellbeing—no matter where you are in your therapy journey, I am here to walk alongside you. I recognize the courage it takes to seek support, and I am proud of you for taking this step. I approach therapy through a relational lens, and forming a strong therapeutic relationship is foundational to my work. I seek to create a safe and non-judgmental space where you feel welcomed, understood, and empowered as you work towards healing. As a client-centered, trauma-informed, and strengths-based therapist I integrate various modalities based on your needs and preferences. I incorporate elements of CBT, mindfulness, mind-body practices, motivational interviewing, and art therapy, and am informed by psychodynamic and intersectional feminist theories. I am LGBTQ+ affirming and culturally responsive, and I strive to be anti-racist and anti-oppressive. I am attentive to the ways in which systems of oppression may impact your health and well-being and welcome you to engage with this throughout the therapeutic process. My ultimate goal is to help you honor yourself and your emotions while cultivating a sense of peace and safety within yourself that endures even in difficult times.

The world’s a dumpster fire. I know it, you know it; I’m not about to sugarcoat that. But we only get one shot here, and therapy’s a legitimate excuse to take a deep breath, put your fucking phone away, disconnect from everything, and talk about YOU. What do you want? What are you passionate about? Who do you want to be at this moment in time, and what’s getting in the way? Maybe you don’t have the answers yet, or maybe you have an idea but the way forward is illusive. Regardless, you wouldn’t be here without recognizing change is necessary. That means you’re already invested in you, and the path you're on. I sincerely respect that. My own path began with a love of the arts and storytelling, and these things often find their way into the work I do. I believe that the art and media we consume often becomes the vocabulary of our imagination and our emotions. These can provide an entry way to talk about heavy things. Existential, narrative, and person-centered therapy are my jams. Additionally, I champion science, justice, diversity, kindness, and sex positivity. I strongly believe these values to be fundamental in cultivating the best version of ourselves and our communities. I welcome adolescents and adults of all ages, expressions, and orientations, as well as individuals within relationship dynamics of all kinds.

Do you often feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in cycles of overthinking and self-doubt? You may be navigating academic or career pressure, family expectations, or the emotional complexity of living between cultures. Many of my clients struggle with anxiety, depression, burnout, perfectionism, and feeling “never good enough,” even when they appear capable on the outside. Therapy can be a space where you slow down, feel understood, and move forward with greater clarity, emotional balance, and self-trust. As a bilingual therapist fluent in Mandarin and English, I bring both professional training and lived experience into my work. Having studied abroad since high school, I understand the challenges of living between cultures and am deeply attuned to the invisible pressures related to identity, family expectations and adapting to new environment. My approach is client-centered and trauma-informed, grounded in empathy, authenticity, and empowerment. I believe that healing begins with understanding—and that every small step toward self-acceptance is a powerful act of growth. I look forward to walking with you on this journey of healing and rediscovery.

Feeling obsessive thoughts swirling around? Does it seem like your emotions and behaviors are controlling you more often than not? Life is feeling just too much? I hear you. You are stressed out. Everything you do to try and be in control isn’t working anymore. I know anxiety, relational stress, and sadness are overwhelming, and confronting it seems almost impossible. I want to tell you, you are not alone. Together we will develop healthy strategies to break free from what's holding you back. Together we take what feels unmanageable, and make it manageable. Through a focus on patience, support, and action; I will empower you to uncover new ways of conquering old problems. I look forward to partnering with you. My Background and Approach My approach and focus in therapy is to create a safe space for you to explore your experiences with anxiety, depression, relational issues, and daily life stressors. I do this through a multi-modality approach using exploratory conversation and weaving in structured approaches (CBT, DBT, ERP). In the first several sessions, I will ask a lot of questions so that I can get to know you and what brings you to therapy. Then you will also ask me questions about who I am and how I work. Finally, together we’ll identify your goals for therapy and what you hope to achieve. To me, therapy is a collaboration, so I will ask for feedback along the way to make sure sessions are going well or if we need to try new strategies. I will be your supporter throughout our work. I am gentle, yet direct with my feedback. Together, we will work to identify the root cause of your worries, fears, phobias, and stressors and then through guided strategies, we will break free from what is holding you back and and build the life that you want to live. My Personal Beliefs and Interests As a long-time vegan, I am passionate about animal welfare and sampling all of the delicious animal-friendly food that my city has to offer. I view people through an intersectional lens and am explicitly antiracist and LGBTQIA+ affirming in my therapeutic practice. I am committed to providing safe spaces for clients, which hinges upon staying mindful of the privileges I continue to receive as a white, cis woman. I believe that current events have a profound impact on sociocultural norms, quality of life, and our general wellbeing. It is crucial to consider, and to name, how past and current events influence society and affect individuals, especially in terms of systems of oppression. My hope is to show clients that although, I may not fully understand your experiences, I can provide a safe space to work on your goals for therapy with support and without harm.
