At Misfit Minds, we work best with students who feel a little overwhelmed by life—even if they’re doing “fine” on the outside. Many of the students we support are carrying anxiety, stress, trauma, or complicated relationship experiences that make it hard to focus, rest, or feel like themselves. Our clients often say things like: “I’m exhausted and always on edge.” “My brain won’t shut off.” “I’ve been through a lot, and it still affects me.” “I don’t feel understood in other spaces.” We’re a good fit for students who want therapy that feels real, supportive, and non-judgmental, not stiff or overly clinical. We especially connect with students navigating anxiety, identity questions, difficult family or relationship dynamics, past emotional harm, or feeling out of place. You don’t need to have everything figured out—or even know exactly what’s wrong—to start. If you want a space where you can be honest, go at your own pace, and be met with compassion, Misfit Minds may be a good fit for you.

I work with clients navigating major life changes, managing anxious thoughts, and overcoming self-doubt. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a core approach, I help you explore how your thoughts influence your emotions and overall experience. Together, we’ll identify the patterns holding you back and develop strategies to challenge those thoughts.

Do you struggle with just being yourself these days? Well, kick off your shoes, relax, put up your feet, let's get real and talk. Many people see therapy as a never ending cycle of therapists sitting with a notepad repeating, "How does that make you feel?". I can assure therapy with me is never a cliche. I know how easy it is to feel alone and always asking why me. Some days it's easy to feel trapped looking for the fastest escape. Others you want to burst into tears or moments you feel like you're making all the wrong choices. I can understand if you need a break and want to scream. I'm here to help. Let's explore those issues you may be struggling with together and take back control of your life.

Hi! My name is Katie (she/her), and I’m excited to work together. My goal is to help you feel safe, comfortable, and free to open up at your own pace. I believe our experiences—past and present—shape the way we think, feel, and move through life. By exploring and validating your thoughts and emotions, we can start to untangle patterns, make sense of what feels overwhelming, and work toward healing. I’m here to support you whether you’re navigating depression, anxiety, grief, body dysmorphia, sexual and gender identity issues, relationship/work stress, and/or chronic illness. Finding the right words to express what you’re feeling isn’t always easy, and that’s okay. Sessions are tailored to what feels right for you. We’ll draw from psychodynamic, somatic, creative arts, and other trauma-informed approaches. Empathy, warmth, and humor are central to my practice, creating a space where you can explore and grow. Currently, I’m an MSW student at Yeshiva University in New York City and hold an MA in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University. I look forward to meeting you! -- Katie Colton is a therapist-in-training at Sol Health. Since starting as a case manager in 1995, I’ve continued to grow and gain valuable experience in this ever-evolving field of psychology.
